i can't play during the week at all, but that still leaves event 1 on the first saturday as a possibility. not sure i can make it that saturday though. if not, i'll try to head down earlier to play some PLO and maybe attempt a satellite into the main.
anyone play the satellite yet? opinions? is there a cap on number of entrants? i know they are guaranteeing 5 seats in every weekly satellite so i'm assuming the number of entrants is somewhat decent. field sizes?
i can't make it this saturday, but i'll try to make it next saturday (thanksgiving weekend). most annoying part is my passport expires this month so i'll have to renew it if i qualify for the main. that or sell the ticket.
I was there last night and the place was not very busy for a Saturday. The $45 satty at 7pm was done by 9, and there wasn't much going on in terms of cash games. Just 2 tables of 2-5 (neither full most of the time), 1 table of 1-2/200max, 5 or 6 tables of 100 max, a table of 2-4 FLHE, and no PLO.
I'm pretty sure you only get hit with the 30% on cash prizes, not satellite tickets.
I used to carpool with a non-forumer and play 2/5 and the occasional 2/5/10 game at Seneca years ago. Without proper notification about the 30% rip-off, Wetts1012 and I played satellites there and after we won, we were gang raped by Seneca. I was forced to give 30% cash of the value of a piece of satellite paper, even though I had not won a single cent in cash. A scummy Yankee tried to rape me again by exploiting my situation with a stupid proposal. I left that night vowing not to give any more business to Seneca; I used up my rewards for a last supper and have not returned there since.
While all the people I talked to including Fallsview poker managers advised me that there was nothing I could do, I was determined to TRY to get something changed, even if I myself may never return there. I contacted the National Indian Gaming Commission, Seneca Nation of New York, tribal gaming commission, gaming corporation, etc. I filed an official complaint and there was an investigation. Unlike all the other US casinos we know where they tax you only after $5,000 net, they insisted that they have to tax 30% of ANY AMOUNT you win. They listened to me about the absurdity of taxing 30% of a satellite, then taxing another 30% of whatever you win from that taxed satellite.
So while Seneca will remain the worst place in the entire world for Canadians to buy into a poker tournament where 30% of even a min-cash will be taxed :bs: (e.g., you thought you won but actually lost money!), at least Canadian satellite players will save millions of dollars from the numerous satellites no longer being taxed since 2008. :wav:
if all works out i will be heading down this saturday. i'll inquire about the 30% withholding crap before i attempt a satellite. otherwise i'll probably just play some cash games while the gf goes shopping.
AFAIK, you now need a passport or one of those other fancy schmancy documents such as FAST/EXPRES and SENTRI since most Americans still mistakenly think that the 911 terrorists entered through Canada. :bs: Even years ago when ReefAquarium and I carpooled to Seneca but forgot a passport, our car was inspected and we were detained! Reef IS a poker terrorist tho.
Went Friday night and it was dead - one table of 2-5 NL, one table of 2-5 Limit Omaha (not PLO), and one table of 1-2 NL $200 max. By 1am the only games left were 1-2 100 max and the Omaha game.
The bad beat had gone off twice during the week and apparently that killed all the action.
Didn't go back the rest of the weekend. Went to Fallsview instead.

They don't anymore, but satty wins are not transferrable/sellable.
