Cross border shoot out

Sliding this over into it's own thread. Kristy and I will be facing off in a cross border shoot out. No lathes will be involved, but some paper targets MAY be harmed in our efforts. My apologies to the pulp and paper industry sympathizers.

The stakes are simple, the loser has to use the undertitle and signature provided by the victor for one week.

The rundown is such:

Kristy is living on some sort of militia type compound and is slowly turning into an End of Days prepper. Eventually this independent minded Vegan will be skinning bunnies for footwear (and food) while shooting a pimple off a gnat's ass at thirty paces.

Milo is an aging schlub who, 30 years ago was just this side of Rambo in terms of shooting ability and physique. He has since aged badly, and is likely to break a hip just getting down into a decent firing position. Assuming he can get back up again, he might just fluke out a win.

Both contestants will be matching skills over a distance of 100 yards, give or take. Best shooter wins. Video evidence to be posted on this site for all to see, and to act as a warning, come the apocalypse. Further details can be found in Kristy's "Prepper" thread.

For the record, some or all of the above comments may be highly fictionalized. those that aren't are probably just lies.

Let the frivolity begin.

  • Bwahahaha Milo!!

I have been waiting for someone to give me hell for the Vegetarian who is about to go on her first hunting trip this Nov.

I can't believe it took this long.

In the interest of protecting CPF's fair gambling abilities, I have shot only a handful of times, and you'd be a fool to not demand some serious odds if you decide to squander your money foolishly betting on me. I boast a 100% success rate at skeet shooting with a bigger deer rifle, but the very few times I have done this could easily be swallowed up by variance or luck.

This is the most jazzed I have been since xxCindyxx joined.
Milo, May the best (wo-)man win! :)
  • Kristy, what are you going to be shooting? I'll see if I can set Milo up with something similar.
  • Gun-wise, or target-wise?
Ryan posted about the gun in the other thread, last time we just taped that paper target to a wood skid...walked away a bit and had at'er, but I assume there's more to it...and we'll definitely be measuring distance. I'll ask GW to come back and post more specifics.
  • can i bring my comp bow?
  • Kristy, I was just making a funny . . . if you are losing your Vegan ways, I really could not care. That is up to you.

Also, your Ruger 10/22 is about what I expected you'd be shooting with. Very common weapon.
  • Nah, hunting is a pro-animal choice. Far better for the animal to have lived free and naturally than in some squalid factory farm condition.
I can't make the vegetarian choice for the rest of the family, but I can support their meat-eater proclivities in a harm-reduction way.

    Plus...as I said...I relish a challenge.
  • No scopes, right?

Hello Canadians. The specifics of the rifle Kristy is going to use for this competition are as follows. It is a Ruger 10/22 semi automatic rifle, synthetic stock stainless steel barrel open sites 25 shot banana clip.

looks like iron sights it is. I think we're going to need to handicap this though, anything I have isn't even going to be fair up against a 10/22.
  • What do you have?

If we're going bigger we need to handicap the other way. A full grown man has a srs advantage over 25 shots.
  • sold the .22 a few years back and still regret it.

I have a couple of options in .223, thats the closest I can get but its still centrefire vs rimfire. Milo would have a huge advantage for sure.

You have access to anything in .223? Small accurate round with low recoil, don't worry - no sore shoulders.

Either that or we handicap Milo like I mentioned. He could shoot from 100 and you from say 75 or so?

This is fine as described if Milo thinks it is equitable
  • I accept. and it looks like I will have my shooting done by the end of the month. Thanks, Bfillmaff.

Glad to help out - and even more glad to help promote the fun and responsible side of gun culture.

For the record: No babies will be harmed during the course of this challenge.

Babies might be made if I manage to win this...

    #paging GW

So that I'm clear and don't screw this up: I'm gonna shoot the 22; you're gonna shoot the .223. Me: 75 yards, you 100 yard.
5 sets of 5 shots--top three sets count
Shoot from w/e position you like, but the gun must be fully supported by yourself.
I'll send my vid to a mod for safe keeping until you get a chance to make yours
Under titles and signatures up for grabs for 1 week.

So you want to do five sets of five rounds, and count the best three sets? Also, no use of scopes by the shooter.

Can we make your range 80? I ask because my distance will be 100m or 110 yds.

If I understand your option correctly, and you accept my "scope" addendum, I believe we have a bet.
  • I must've misunderstood..I thought 5 sets of 5 shots was YOUR idea.
  • No, I said two rounds of ten, best 5 shots from the best target card wins. I like yours better though. So how about this as final rules:

Kristy shoots a .22 from a distance of 80 yds. (paced if measuring is too hard).
    Milo shoots a .223 from a distance of 100m (110 yds).

Both shooters will fire 5 shots at five different targets, best three cards to be used for determining the winner.
Both shooters to use iron sights and support the weapon without aid (no bipods, pillows, etc.).

We will both submit videos for posting to a moderator when the deed is done.
To the victor go the spoils: Choosing the loser's undetitle and signature for a duration of one week. Loser must post at least once with these selections for posterity.

I will be shooting on the 28th of this month, and so should have a video available shortly thereafter.

Can I assume cell phone video will be sufficient?
  • I'm just gonna say it now, but I knew this was gonna get complicated.
  • Shooting standing up at Silverdale is going to be a problem. It's the reason I did not renew my membership and am on the wait list at another club. (Milo and I are going to Silverdale as guests.)

The short version is, the Ontario CFO came in and was worried about bullets going too high and somehow going over the *massive* hill behind the range. As a result they forced them to shut down and install "baffles" above the range. Problem is they *really* fucked them up.

Here's what baffles are supposed to look like:
    140az9w.jpg

And here's what they actually installed:
    2mmem46.jpg

It's quite literally the safety nazis completely out of control combined with a world class shit job on the installation. The range is ruined... there's only about 12" of space above the bench that you can see through, its hard to even use a bipod, definitely no standing up.

I could go on... it really pissed me off... anyway, I'll message them and see if there is any way to shoot standing up - but you may have to use a bench and a sandbag. I don't know of another range that allows guests.
  • I'm just gonna say it now, but I knew this was gonna get complicated.

it seems a wager of this proportion requires explicit detail!

This is just gonna end up happening on a street at dawn.
  • Lying down works for me, it's truer to the doomsday thread since I'm definitely a hid-in-the-bushes type.
Elbows are allowed contact with the ground, then?
  • This is just gonna end up happening on a street at dawn.

I'm just shooting in a field.
  • some examples of possible undertitles and signatures?
  • Off the top of my head...

    "Reefist-Christ! I shoot worse than a girl"
"Whatever Kristy just posted is right"
"All furry, all fun, all the time. PM me for details. <3"
  • can pictures be included in the signature? >:D
  • Prone position is to be preferred for accuracy. As stated, as long as the shooter is supporting the weapon . . . good to go.

Bfillmaff, can you shoot prone at Silverdale?
  • I'm kinda pissy today after a bad night's sleep... But that post reads condescending enough to add fuel to my "Gotta win this" fire. Do you want to define "low-wind range conditions" or "the benefits of your gun over mine" for the folks at home too? :P

Thanks for the motivation boost Milo! ;)

See bolded . . . when did I post those comments?

As for any boost to your motivation, how about these potential "signatures":

Women should be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, obedient to their husbands.
