[SPLIT] Time Pots
mac wrote:Fallsview just upped their rake on $10-$20. It was 10% max of $5, now it is 10% max $7, a 40% increase!! They don't even kiss you on the lips before they screw you.
At 30 hands an hour , $100 a pot , they are taking $210/hr. off the table.
Brantford charges $10 an hour session fee times 10 players, for a total of $100/hr.
I know where I'll be playing.
back in the day, rama was the best because the players were allowed to post time pots. this worked great for players who were on a bit of a cold streak since they wouldn't get "sessioned out".
last time i went back up there, they weren't allowing time pots anymore. anyone know why? maybe caused too many arguments between players?

Let me be sure I know what you mean by "time pot". I believe this means that house fees for the table are collected as follows:
-At some regular time interval (say, every half hour), the time pot indicator (could be a physical button for example) is turned on.
-If the time pot indicator is on, and the pot reaches a minimum size, that particular pot is raked and the time pot indicator is turned off.
-This rake represents the rake for the entire table for the given time period.
This completely kills the action in two ways.
1. The hands before the time pot is actually charged (and after it is due) become a folding to the big blind fest. What's the incentive to play for a time pot with a marginal (or even good) hand?
2. Players who understand how to play in a time pot game will absolutely massacre those who don't. Some players are paying a house fee while some players are not. The worst players will be broken very fast in this game, because they are both the worst poker players in the game and will be paying a disproportionately large portion of the house fee. This is a brutal combination.
Also, from the casino's point of view, it's theoretically possible that no time pot rake is collected during a particular time period. They either have to accept the fact that they did not collect a fee (yeah, right!), or use some alternative collection method in these cases. I'd imagine they would find it simpler to use the alternative collection method in the first place.

i don't think we're on the same page here.
by "time pot" i mean that one player posts the sessions for each player ($55 for an 11 handed 10/20 game). the first two 100+ pot winners pay the time pot poster 30 and 25 respectively.
until the time pot has been repaid, no player who was posted for is allowed to leave the table, or else an amount equivalent to the session fee is given back to the poster.
back when i was playing regularly, this was actually the most popular way to do things. only at rama, of course, since port perry didn't allow time pots.
i guess rama disallowed time pots since they couldn't police them? maybe there were a few too many problems amongst players bickering over them. i dunno...
We're talking about the same thing, except that the time pot charge is actually divided over two (minimum sized) pots rather than just one.
All of my comments still apply.
