An old scotch? Tickets to something they are into. An item they collect. Go in with 5 more friends on something big but then still give them the scotch?
Do they hunt? Golf? Make little intricate dollhouses? Get them items that relate to that.
A really nice gift would be a book of memories with photos and comments from friends and coworkers. But that would take a lot of work and you are lazy. So I stand by my earlier response.

As Jah mentioned above, hobbies are something to consider.
Keep in mind that retirement can be very difficult for some people. Others it's smooth sailing.
When my Dad retired, he went kind of nuts. All he'd ever done his entire life was work now he felt like he had nothing to do and became a miserable SOB. I moved away from home 3 months later. Couldn't take it anymore. Eventually he found things to do around the house and volunteering elsewhere to occupy himself.
Others might dive into a hobby of some sort. Just a thought.

Are nice cigars a good gift? Is there any brands that are the nuts?
i don't think adult diapers is a good gift idea.
