Lesson of a different sort

Last night playing the freebie at Red Hot Poker Tour I learned another lesson. Keep a check on the head count.
Sitting BB for 4k and 500 ante and a dead SB... 7 players... 3 callers to me (one is all-in) pocket 4s.
Pot is 19.2k incl 7x500 ante (all-in was 300 short)
Blinds are going up to 6/3k... ante to 1k next hand.
I go all in for another 8k
One caller... Pocket 8s
No help from the board for either hand.
I finished 11th one short of the final table.
With 2 other shorter stacks at our table to blind out before me I could have survived to final table with a very short stack.
Thoughts?

  • Agreed. The tournament directors just stand around doing nothing. I was in the top 3 stacks in my table with 4 shorter stacks. I looked around and noticed that there seemed to be only one other table left.

I was on the button with a good calling hand. With no other callers except the short-stacked blinds, I decided to aggressively go for the win and went all in. I ended up losing against a flush. Had the directors announced that there were only 10 players left, I would have just called or even folded my decent hand. I ended up 9th place, right on the bubble off the final table. :'(

By the way, can somebody give the details on the white chips? Are they given by the waittress for every single drink that you buy with no limit? Are they always worth the small blind no matter how high the small blind becomes?

Are you looking to win a free bag of chips or free booze for the night? Limping into the final table crippled sucks.
  • What exactly do you get for reaching the final table? If the answer is nothing, then ask yourself this question, are you trying to win the tournament or just not lose as bad.
