Tentative Next CPF Vegas Trip Sep 14-20

Planning on using up my MyVegas facebook chips to book free nights at Aria and Monte Carlo.

Bookings open on May 3.

Aria costs 165000 chips weekday
Monte Carlo is 52500 weekday and 135000 weekend.
For those who would like to experience Circus Circus, weekday rooms are 20000 :)

Each individual can book up to 3 nights in a 30 day period.

So get spinning!

  • How long do I have to play MyVegas to get 20,000 points (so my kid can play with other kids at kid-friendly CC)? Should I spend that time making money at PartyPoker/PokerStars/Rama instead? Does MyVegas allow kids to play?

  • I believe you have to be 21 to cash in any points at the rewards desk. You can easily do about 5000 gold chips per week. I spend <5 min per day. Just enough to check in and collect my chips. I don't spin unless there is some kind of reward bonus on.
  • Always wanted to stay at aria

but yea ill check this out never heard of myvegas lol
  • Aria was at 99000 for the weekend. Wait until they have the "bonus" before you book your rooms.
  • try not to go to CC..just sayin;)
  • personally id only ever stay at the venetian/palazzo or like bellagio/wynn/aria i want to be where the action is and the best poker rooms without travel time and have a nice big clean room to sleep in, without 5 STDs per square foot. :P

pretty psyched for may ill prolly leave end of may and stay 4-5 weeks til beginning of july and grind. the rates are really good at the V like $109 or something a night
  • Looking like Sept 9-17 now.

I assume that's only $217.98/person, not $21,798. Do you know if there are any special tournaments or events going on that week? The lowest price I got for a July 1-8 flight is $569 via YYZ. :(
  • Whoops looks like back to Sep. 16-23 now. Flight price is the same but room availability through MYVegas is better.
  • Oooh, there are three Survivor tournaments available for me & pkrfce9 on September 12, 19 & 26.

For the MyVegas players, here's a link that got me 1,000 Loyalty Points - https://apps.facebook.com/playmyvegas/Coupon/mgm/PEHAA8.

Which travel medical insurance is recommended? RBC Insurance charges $39pp.

  • Currently I get the 17 day medical protection through my BMO Mastercard. $70 for unlimited trips for the year, covers family.

MasterCard Travel Medical | BMO Bank of Montreal

Once my new Scotia Momentum VISA Infinite card arrives, it comes with free travel insurance. It covers up to 15 days for your entire family.

FREE $100 Gift Card from RateSupermarket.ca

Before I found costcotravel.com I would always book through Priceline. Sign up for their emails and eventually they send a coupon code good for a few dollars off per day.
  • is a rental car necessary? always take cabs when in Vegas. Probably still spend less than $100 for the entire trip.

I think he wanted to do some things outside of the strip which would require a car. If you are just staying within the strip then cab/walk is your best bet.
  • Once you start renting it's hard to go back to walking. A cab to/from the airport with tip is going to cost you at least $20 each way. Time is money. I'd rather be gambling than walking.

who said anything about walking...I hate waiting for valet and rather jump in a cab personally. Although that summer heat can be a bitch. Its great walking back to your hotel in 120 degree heat after a 12 cash game session :)
  • Well if you take two cabs a day plus your hotel/airport, aren't you ahead to rent?
  • If it was just me & a forumer, I would go with whatever that forumer wanted. I have no problem taking shuttles, monorails, buses or walking; or splitting with StinkyFingers for a car rental. I agree with moose that taking taxis everyday would be the worst option for me.

I didn't realize that my TD U$ VISA Card is like a gold card with a bunch of travel benefits and Auto Rental Collision / Loss Damage. Since my family is going with me for the first time ever to Vegas, we'll rent a car, hoping to go to most (if not all) of the following:

    1) Grand Canyon SkyWalk (196 km)
    2) Valley of Fire (89 km)
    3) Dam Hoover (48 km)
    4) Red Rock Canyon (27 km)
    5) Area 51 or other attraction?

  • Valley of Fire is a great trip
  • In your rental Mustang convertible - even better!

  • Red Rock Canyon is ok but Valley of Fire is 10x better. But even Valley of Fire will eat most of a day. I wouldn't drive to the Grand Canyon unless you are planning to include hiking or some other activity and are prepared to use up an entire day on it. Better to watch travelzoo for a helicopter deal which gets you to the Grand Canyon in under 30 min. The helo pads are generally out towards Henderson so you could combo the helo ride with Hoover Dam. Be aware that the full Hoover Dam tours sell out fast, so you have to be there early in the morning to get a tour. If you helo first then Hoover, the full tours will be likely sold out.

Read up on this before you commit - from what I understand it is worth it (+EV) to drive the extra distance and go to the "real" grand canyon, which is the "South Rim". Apparently the SkyWalk hangs over a shitty part of the canyon offering no real view and at a very shallow point of the canyon nothing like the real thing - and to top it off they charge you out the ass for it.

Also, check weather report before you go... We were so spoiled with the LV weather we didn't even think to check... We looked pretty silly standing in the cold rain in T-shirts, not to mention the fact that we couldn't see 10 feet into the canyon cause of the damn fog!
  • BTDT on the Grand Canyon South Rim a couple of times, including by airplane. So Skywalk is on the bucket list, along with Valley of Fire, High Roller, and getting drunk in a Las Vegas nightclub for the first time! :D

This I want to see... :p Are you going in Sept?
  • Just snagged a premium car through costcotravel.com dropping my rental car by $40.

Updated cost is $888.98, gotta be lucky right?
  • Is a typical premium car like a Nissan Altima? All the other times I went to the Las Vegas car rental, there were a lot of cars available, but when I arrived at 11 PM this time, there was a long line-up with very few cars available and we got a free upgrade to a 2014 Mustang convertible (> $75/day) for the same low price of $21/day.
