Driving into US

Hey,

Looking at a flight out of buffalo and wondering if it will be a problem that the car ownership is in my wife's name (diff last name from mine) and she won't be coming. I'm on the insurance obv.

Thanks

  • Get a letter from your wife stating that it is ok for you to take the vehicle into the US. Have the letter notorized and addressed to the "Officer in charge of Border Protection.

Also, have your wife near a phone about the time you are crossing the border, in case they want to call her.
  • Thanks. I just confirmed that in the USA border website. Flight to Vegas 850$ from Toronto and 470 from buffalo. Fack fack.
  • I have the same issues. Flying to Las Vegas from YYZ is much more expensive than first driving to the US (Detroit). Since I'll be crossing the border alone with my kid who doesn't look anything like me, I may also be scrutinized by Homeland Security. :-\

  • Yeah that could be tricky. You would need a notarized document for sure.

I just booked westjet 700$. For the 150$ more it's not worth the hassle.
I have a comped suite at Aria and 150$/day food and beverage so I'm not complaining :)

I flew sunwing last trip for 500$ but never again. Sardined in that plane. Something dropped out of my pocket halfway they the flight and there was no room to lean forward to pick it up until we landed.
  • I wish I knew how to get comped.

    Exactly.

Losing not so much but definitely high coin in in slots. I got lucky and won a ton of jackpots in January.

Now I have a host, get limo pick up, and stay in the sky suites with food and beverage also comped.

All I really changed was stopped gambling in Ontario back in oct and now I just go to Vegas.

Haven't played a hand of hold em once lol
  • What about a "test drive" to Seneca before booking your flight? I'm planning on crossing the border to a free US hotel this week to see if Homeland Security will have a problem with me travelling alone with my kid.

  • Friend of mine hit a slots jackpot many years ago at Niagara for 6 figures. They spent the next year and a half sending him a limo once a month and putting him up in a suite just to keep him playing there
  • Did your friend gambool it all back to Seneca, or did he learn how to play poker and invested the rest?

  • Actually, he invested about half for his kids, and enjoyed the rest. He died of cancer before the money ran out.

If you don't want to go through the trouble of getting a "note", The note still being the wisest choice you can take the chance that you won't get stopped. If it is just an issue with the car have your wife ready to accept a call from the border as they will call her if you give her number. I go over a couple of times a month with no problems.

On your trip to vegas make sure you get players cards at all the casino's that you play.
For poker it must be cash games at most places.
I also use "Myvegas" on facebook which is not for everyone but it will get you some nice comps at all mgm resorts in vegas.
