Ontario poker dealer: AMA

Hi, I've been dealing poker in Ontario casinos for 15+ years. I have worked in several casinos (the basic rules are all the same but some have odd house rules). You want some insight into bad rulings? Some insight into house rules? Why some casinos with bad rules keep them? Ask me anything and if I don't know I know who to Ask.

  • Why have the moving button rule?
  • Jokers? Why not?
  • I have a question, do all the dealers favour having a union in place with the tip pooling system? Wouldn't it be favourable to have all the bad dealers fired to increase the tip rate?
  • The moving button rule in Ontario? I think one of us is confused. You mean forward moving vs dead? In cash or tournaments?

Of course everyone wants the bad dealers fired! Tip pooling or not, though for tip pooling reasons.... Yes! Since no room in Ontario has poker dealers (exclusively) and all pool tokes it is tough to say whether unions have been good or bad for dealers. Not all rooms are unionized so you guys would probably know better than I.

My personal opinion is that in union shops you may find better dealers during the week/day than nights and weekends in Ontario. In Vegas the exact opposite is true especially for rooms that keep their own.
  • Yes the moving button rule in Ontario. This is the correct terminology, as per the link below, Robert's Rules 4.2a. Cash games. Why use it?
