Low Rake DeepStack at Mohawk

I was out at Mohawk last night for the first time in a long while. The poker room manager, Raf told me that in addition to the Saturday and Sunday tournaments that they are currentlly running at 4pm and 2pm respectively, they have added a deepstack on the first Saturday of each month (in place of the reg $100.00 Sat. tourney).

Buy-in: $160.00
Rake: $10.00 (6.6%)
Starting stack: $15,000
Blind Levels: 20 min
20 players max.
Top 3 get paid (I think he said the winner gets $1500.00)

He also told me that they plan are doing higher buy-in tournaments with bigger starting stacks and increased blind levels. And the rake will remain at $10.00.

This should appeal to anyone who likes low-rake tournies!

Cash games still run Friday nights, Saturday, and Sunday after tournaments). Too bad we can't get more action there through the week. I would have thought that Mohawks proximity to Waterloo Region and surrounding area would have appealed to more players. The play there is super-soft. I have played there very sporadically over the last year (last night was first time in around 6 months). I made a single deposit of $200.00 a year ago and have run that up to almost 5k. ^-^

  • I just saw that the "deepstack" tourney at Mohawk has already been posted and discussed here by Blondefish....sorry for the overlap on this topic....I've been away for awhile!
  • No problem giving it a bit more publicity, we want these low rake casino tournaments to succeed.
  • Has anybody been playing these excellent $150+$10 tourneys? They keep selling out early (like Rama, GBH & Brantford) and I haven't played one yet. :'( Hopefully, the $220+$10 will start this month.

  • I took down the deep stack tournament yesterday at Mohawk for $1225.00....actually chopped it with one of the regs from Brantford...he settled for $1175. I was low stack of the tournament at first break when I ran my pocket queens into pocket kings early on.
The poker room manager said that they are going to be running more of these two table tourneys very soon, including a $230.00 deep stack.
Mohawk poker is still dead thru the weekdays M-T. I mentioned to him that maybe they could get more players on a midweek night by running one of these tourneys as well. Would really like to see these guys get busier throughout the week - it is the closest place to me here in K-W.
  • Congrats! So you turned a $200 deposit to $6K in the poker room closest to the most forum members? Electronic poker is rigged!!! :wink2:

  • I would play on a week night at Mohawk if they ran one.
  • Shipped the Sunday tournament at Mohawk yesterday for $795.00...17 runners.

They have a new schedule out for their tournaments. They will now be running a $230 deep stack the first Saturday of every month. A $160.00 deep stack on each of the other Saturdays and their $100.00 events on Sundays. They also will be featuring tournaments on holidays.

As mentioned prior - these are all low rake tournaments! They often sell out so register early, in person.

Congrats again! Are you the first player in Mohawk to win first place back-to-back?

Thanks for posting this. Mohawk/OLG have still neglected to put any of its tournaments on the website. :(

I'm guessing no...but I really don't know. I just started playing the tournaments there at Mohawk again. Played only in a couple others in spring of last year. I know they have had some regulars that have had some success in these two table sit-and-go's before.

I spoke with the manager there last night and mentioned this. The information should be online soon. He is trying to keep the ball rolling and is open to ideas. If we can get more bodies in chairs at Mohawk, there can be some good poker there. The atmosphere is very friendly and it sure beats the longer drive to Niagara or Woodbine. Spread the word....:)

Did you win with the hand 22's?:D

Since it's Good Friday, I'm staying home for the halibut. But in case somebody is looking for a good low buy-in low-fee game this holiday, Mohawk is having a $90+$10 tournament this afternoon. See my post for the contact info.

I'll try to play all the $220+$10 and $150+$10 tournaments at Mohawk, after checking in at Woodbine to see if they will run a SNG despite the stoopid deadline.
  • Apparently their holiday tournaments are starting in May (24 stat which falls on the 19th?)

The $150 + $10 is running today at Mohawk.
  • Did you cash again? For the second Saturday this month, I stopped by before the tourney but it had already sold out much earlier! :o It's a good thing I was just coming from somewhere else so it wasn't a big deal driving south towards home, but I need to remember to first phone from Woodbine/Mississauga. Similar to Rama, GBH and Brantford, I was forced to buy 7 days in advance for the next $150+$10 tourney to avoid being disappointed again with the early sell-outs.

While Mohawk will increase its tournaments to 15 in May  (including the May 19 Victoria Day holiday), when will the other poker rooms like Woodbine realize that they need to offer more tournaments to satisfy the huge demand in the GTA? :baffled:

No I didn't play at Mohawk last weekend because of family stuff over Easter......but I just got back from Brantford where I won a seat into this Sunday's $550.00 deep stack. :)
  • Congrats again. Who were the other players that won a seat? Do you know who were the winners of the Last Man Standing bet?

Jordan and an older gentleman chopped the last man standing bet after the gentleman was eliminated. Cal won a seat, along with an older guy and woman who's names I do not know (not Carol). I don't know many names at Brantford as I am not a regular like many of the players there. The other guy that won a seat was a middle-aged black guy. 33 runners with six seats up for grabs.

I think Teddy was was the first guy to bust last night....

Who else here is planning on playing this Sunday?
  • Who else here is planning on playing this Sunday?
It will probably be The_Game, JordanGM & me at the Brantford Deep Stack, so despite forum members being a low percentage of these sold-out casino tournaments, there is a good chance that a member will cash again.

A manager at Mohawk phoned me and we talked about the great improvements to ~15 monthly tournaments. Unfortunately, even though Mohawk & Woodbine are both managed by the same company (WEG), the poker management in Woodbine is different and don't understand how to increase their cash game traffic.

:-X Must not tap the tank, must not tap the tank....
  • Anybody else playing today?
The $150 + $10 is running today at Mohawk.
  • I was thinking of playing the deep stack this saturday June 21st. Has anyone played this tourny lately that could describe the level of play in it. Also been over a year since I've played at mohawk are the cash games any good on the weekends anymore?
  • DrTyore, PocketTwos, BigBOB and I have all cashed at these Mohawk tourneys, and with the rake at an unbelievable 6%, :cool2: they are much more +EV than any of the daily tourneys in Las Vegas! It's even more +EV since there does not seem to be any forum regs in these tourneys, including me when I'm busy that weekend.

Hi Buddy. We haven't spoken in a long time. I understand you've been to Montreal
and Las Vegas recently trying to make the big score. Hope you got lucky too, although I know you're a numbers man ( what with all your +EV talk )

It's a lot more difficult to play in a fair game when there is a rake involved, but
if you go to a casino there must be a rake to stay in business.

I'm reaching out to you Buddy because I just don't know what else to do,
and you seem like the most logical person in this forum.

What am I doing wrong ?

Why aren't forummers signing up as GOLD MEMBERS even though Milo
and pkrfce9 can confirm everything is legit and the June 28 is for $1090 PRIZE.
With only 5 qualifiers so far this is, as you say, very, very +EV. Put in $30
    to make $1090.

When will you be coming ?

Not everyone lives near Missasaga. Maybe try advertising on some flyers and pin them up all over the city. (Laundry mats, colleges, outside stores, etc.) Just a suggestion.
