  • seems like a good fold, why do you think you were ahead?
  • The guy was a maniac. Huge pots sometimes showing down ace high.
At times showing missed mid range connectors and floating.
  • why didn't you call then?
  • lol because even maniacs get pocket aces.
  • how do you put him on that?

pocket aces are unlikely, but two pair, or even top pair seems more likely.

I would hope he doesn't play a turned straight this way.
  • More importantly why do you bet the turn? What is your plan in this hand?
  • Playing hands with this guy was like a game of guts.
I bet the turn only because at any sign of weakness he would make pot size or all in bets.
He did at times back off after firing twice plus I did think I was ahead.

Really I did not have much of a plan as it was 4 am ish and I was getting tired. After this hand I splashed some cold water woke up and made a plan to play better.

I think he may have had the 7 and is why I ultimately folded and decided I would find a better spot against him. Just wished I hadn't stuck in so many chips.
  • Here is another hand with the same guy. This is why I think I there may have been a possibility that I was good.

  • ^^^

The only difference is that he has history of you folding your c-bet hands on dry boards to a shove.

It is unlikely that you hit that board and he thinks he can push you off your hand, as he did before.

And he has two over cards to the board, in case you do have a 7 and call.

Sometimes you have to lose a battle or two in order to win the war.
  • Being the 2nd hand posted took place after the 1st hand, not sure why it would be relevant.

Like DJ said, he prob thought he could push you off. The call on the river is only a 1BB hero call.
  • I'm most likely checking behind on turn in 1st hand to get free card for 2 pair or the straight cause if he is a idiot maniac he is paying you off.
  • I happened to have equilab open... I think you are well ahead of his range on the flop, let's say its:

    [77-22, ATs-A5s, KJs-K4s, Q8s+, J7s+, T8s+, 97s+, 86s+, 75s+, 65s, 54s, ATo-A6o, K9o+, QTo+, JTo, T9o]

Assuming those are the hands he was willing to defend with, you are a 64.82% favourite on the flop. After the call on the flop, what hands can you eliminate, and what hands check raise the 3? Now how many of those are you ahead and how many are you behind? Now add the maniac's image... I think your instinct that you were good was correct - just facked up on the follow through part!
  • Being the 2nd hand posted took place after the 1st hand, not sure why it would be relevant.
This was an example of how he played any ace10-k. I watched him numerous times hit his miracle ace on the river against other players when he should have folded on missed flop and turn. He got lucky on many rivers. Another reason why I thought he may have had a strong ace that he was refusing to fold.
  • This is a good example of a hand where you can play some pot control.
Check back flop, call or bet turn
Also not much reason for a Cbet to be that big here, your just inflating the pot with a med pair, and the chance your Cbet gets through here is not too great
  • Also wanted to add, It's great that you are paying attention to what your opponents are doing IMO. :)

Again, you had no plan for this hand and seem to just mash buttons and react afterward.
