Adblock plus for Internet Explorer

For those of you who want a really good IE ad blocker, give this a try. It has become a really good tool. I have been using it for quite a while but recent changes have made it quite easy to setup and non intrusive. Give it a try and let me know how you like it.

FYI, for those of you who use piratebay this even blocks the "girly" adds up and down the side of the search pages.... Just warning you of this as some may like them. ;)

  • Two things

    God bless the "girly ads"..

    second;

"adblock' has been a google chrome app for at least a couple of dozen months

In other words... IE = GC circe 2009

  • what is this interweb explore thingy?
  • anyone use safari? i'm getting sick of firefox and i don't particularly like chrome.
  • Only on my iPod Touch where it's the default browser. I'm still learning the features of Google Chrome, but I like it better than the evil IE.

  • lol @pseudo techies.. adblock plus has been around on all browsers for a while but the newest version doesn't require a techie to make it work..

Are you sure you're talking about the same blocker? There's a million of them.
  • Just installed for Firefox. Took about 3 seconds. Didn't have to do anything other than click install.

Already not seeing oddly malformed muscle guys, Honey Boo Boo's mom and all the other weird things FB displays on the right side.

    Thanks.
  • Without getting into our own version of the browser "wars" have a look at this pc mag review. They are usually kinda anti MS but have certainly toned it down recently, not sure why, maybe Bill has threatened to buy them? :)
Has anyone tried Maxthon 4? I haven't but may give it a try over the holidays just to say I have.

My idea is that there isn't a whole lot to make one stand out over the other nowadays. Very much a personal preference. They are all so quick relative to even a couple of years ago.

  • amazing how many people are unaware of adblock, just recently had to install it on friends PC.

I couldnt imagine having to deal with youtubes ads and the general spam i used to see and hate lol
  • Works so good it even blocked 3 on this page alone...

  • Aside from a "Do Not Track" request and Adblock, are there any other important things to change for Chrome?

Which browser is best for parental controls so that my kid can't browse the same things I do? >:D Has anybody used the "Supervised users" beta for Chrome as I don't see any checkbox for "This is a supervised user managed by..."?
  • ^^^ I believe there is a Parental Control APP for chrome https://chrome.google.com/webstore/search/parental%20control?hl=en, I don't use them as my kids are adults now (lol)

or you can setup your Parental Control on your ROUTER...
  • So is it AdBlock from getadblock.com that I download for Chrome as opposed to Adblock Plus from adblockplus.org?

  • Is there something I need to configure with Chrome ABP as I still see the poker ads?
Does this mean that I will never see porn ads again? :-\

  • Click on the AD Block icon (top right-hand corner), choose "Block an Ad on this Page" then it will do the rest...
  • Thanks. So the poker ads are gone, but I'll still get to see all the Rikki Six ads?
P.S. I noticed ABP also blocks the quoted text in posts automatically? :-\

hmm, out of the box default it didn't block the poker links on IE11. Did you change any parameters?

    .....

I highlighted the Ad ie. Pokerstars (line for line) then hit "Looks Good" then "Block It"...If you don't want to block Quotes (Blondefish) it will look like this.

OK, I want to run it default to see what it does for clients with out configuring, ie not techies like you guys. ;)

"Out of the box" it seems to leave the "good stuff" ie poker banners but blocks the adverts on the side of the piratebay...
  • i still haz pokerz stuffs
