Las Vegas - off the strip

I've been to Vegas several times, and have rarely ventured away from the main strip. Yes been down town and to the Rio and Palms. Is there any where else anyone would recommend? Ellis island was worth the trip off the strip.

  • I'm in the same boat. Didn't leave the strip other than to go to The Gun Store to blast away and the Hard Rock to play the daily tourney.

I'd suggest going through Moose's trip reports which are always a really good read. The man knows the Vegas strip and otherwise. You'll have to find them on here though. Shouldn't be too hard.
  • For chips, the Mirage poker room has relatively new chips, also LVH released new chips with the name change (from Hilton) and just reopened their poker room this summer. Other off strip poker rooms that are fairly busy are Green Valley Ranch, Red Rock Resort and some of the other station casinos. Use the Bravo Poker app to see what is spreading. There have been reports of collusion among the locals at RRR so be aware.

Most of those places you will need a car. If you want to drive to Henderson (about 20 min) Jokers Wild has $1 craps and. $.25 chips so you can actually place $1.50 on 6&8 and get paid correctly.

If you decide to drive to Hoover Dam, you will pass by the Railroad Pass and Hacienda casinos which also feature low limit BJ, craps and roulette, though not as good as Jokers Wild. It's a fun drive though if you also want to throw in a few hours doing some low limit gambling.

Don't miss Ellis Island BBQ for sure. Also I always go to the Silver Sevens casino for breakfast, it's a few more blocks west along Flamingo.

Further afield, about 40 min south is Primm Valley which has the Desperado coaster, which at the time of construction was the highest coaster in the world, now I believe it is just out of the top 10. The NyNy coaster is a waste of time and money.
  • Hard Rock is $500 max on their 1/2 nl and if you don't open the table, the locals will be sitting there with several k, waiting to run the tourists over.

For a day trip Laughlin is really nice. It's a cool drive through the desert and then Laughlin itself is along a river Valley for an interesting contrast. It's about a 1.5 hr drive. There are tons of casinos and several that also spread poker.
  • These days I dont go south of Belagio or north of Wynn. Do any of these casinos run any bigger games, 2/5+?

    This sounds like a challenge.
