Las Vegas Vacation Questions

Hey, I will be going on a trip to Vegas in February. I am 19 which is under the legal age, but I am going no matter because it is a family trip. I will be bringing some friends with me that are over 21.

My question is do all the casinos ID you? Would there even be a chance of sitting down at a poker table at one of the lower end Casinos?

Just asking because my parents went there last year, and said they didn't see anyone get asked for ID.

If I don't get to gamble I wont really care that much, but it would be a bonus. I know I will be able to see the shows, and drink on the strip,etc...

Looking for some opinions from people who have been there or heard stories..

Like I said I will be going no matter what.

  • I wouldn`t gamble if I was you.

+1. Don't risk future visits to Sin City just because you want to play poker now.
  • Im not going for poker, never was.. Just would be an extra if I could.
  • I got ID'd twice last trip and I'm over 40. Overall I've been ID'd about 10 times the last dozen trips or so. Security comes over pretty quick if you are young looking and at a slot machine. The dealers will also ID you at a table.
  • Alright, do they ever ID people just walking down the strip?

It's not illegal to walk down the street if you're underage to gamble or drink.

The first time I went to Vegas, we stayed at the Sahara. I saw mothers walking through the casino with their baby strollers and toddlers in tow. The place was literally a cloud of smoke. I couldn't believe what I was seeing.
  • I mean if i'm visibly drunk...Not hammered, but will they ID people on the street for drinking?

I'm pretty sure the risk would be very similar to the risk wherever you live now.
  • Ahhh so not much then, I think i should be fine drinking there... Its a tourist place with huge crowds... Chances are I won't be asked for ID on the street.
  • of age people are allowed to drink on the strip. I've done it and seen it numerous times. No one says or does anything.
  • Yes, as Jacen said it's not illegal to drink on the strip if you are of age.

I'd never recommend any foreign visitor to another country casually commit even the most minor of misdemeanor offense. "Chances are I won't get caught" isn't exactly the most comforting line of thinking in this regard.
  • What's the worst that could happen if I do get caught? Just not sure what the risks are.

    Hangover 4?
  • I've been reading a lot of forums, and most people are saying that they are very strict on underage drinking and the fine is pretty big compared to over here..... HMMMMM I don't have to gamble there, but if I can't drink either that might be a game changer..

You will spend at least the night in the local "Hilton" and it will cost you or your parents some $$$. The police are generally out in some force on the main strip, lots of them undercover as well. If your are underage and don't look significantly over 21 I don't like your chances. If you or your friends are being somewhat rowdy it will increase the likelihood of being stopped significantly. Also depending on what happens you run the risk of future US trips.
  • I have no idea whether or not you'd end up in jail for the night or just get a fine. For sure you'll get a fine.

As Comp says, the larger issue in my mind is whether or not you'd be admissible to the US in the future. They really don't like people coming from other countries and not giving a crap about their laws.

I knew a guy who spent two years in an immigration detention center down there until he was transferred to a Canadian prison (Very significant offense). He figures he got beat up roughly every other day. Obviously drinking underage wouldn't have the same results.
  • Hmmm, with that being said where else is a relatively cheap place to go where I can gamble and drink? I would like to go somewhere with some nice Casino's/poker rooms...

I can handle not being able to gamble, but a risk with drinking doesn't seem appealing.
  • There's gotta be several places in the Caribbean that a 19 year old can drink and play poker.

Don't forget to post a selfie at the Bellagio fountains.....
  • Anyone take mini trips to Niagara Falls? Any fun there or no?
  • Since 19 is legal in Canada but not in the US, you may as well drink & play in Canada. Even Annette Obrestad was stuck in Las Vegas at 20, officially forbidden to go to any room where there is gambling or drinking; but as a VIP, I saw her being snuck into the PokerStars, 888 & other 21+ parties.

    1) Niagara Falls, Canada: drink legally & play poker at Fallsview/Niagara, including the Fallsview Poker Classic on Feb. 18-24. Can party at Sundowner, Dragonfly, etc. Put a $20 bill on your face and lie down on the Sundowner stage & see what happens! >:D

    2) Montreal: play a poker tournament at Kahnawake (but avoid the unbeatable cash games unless you need to eat the "free" food). Drink & party downtown.

    3) Toronto: play at Woodbine & other GTA casinos. Drink & party downtown.

  • Thinking a trip to the Falls would be cool, going to see if some friends wanna go there.

Thanks for the deal. The 2-bedroom suites can accommodate up to 6 or 7 people. Anybody willing to consider sharing a suite? For example, four adults can have Friday, December 13 or January 30 for only $159. Any other great hotel deals?

I remember when I used to grind the Fallsview satellites, I would search for a hotel to sleep in after a winning but very late session and wanting to get up the next day and sign up ASAP when the satellites opened up again, but sometimes all the hotels were booked up & I had to sleep in my car. :-[
These 2-Bedroom Suites make traveling as an absolute dream! These spacious and functional suites offer two bedrooms, each with a comfortable King-sized bed and plasma TV, and a separate vanity area for convenience. The main bedroom also features a cozy fireplace and Queen-sized pull-out sofa. The over-sized bathroom provides the ultimate in relaxation with a glass enclosed Jacuzzi bath overlooking the main bedroom and beyond. All our suites include Hilton standards such as coffee makers, mini-fridges, hair-dryers, wireless internet access (fee may apply), alarm/clock radio, iron and ironing board. These suites can accommodate up to 6 people (7 with rollaway bed).
  • If you did manage to gamble and won anything significant the first thing they want is your ID. Imagine hitting a miracle progressive pot on a slot then being told sorry you are too young.

If you get too drunk on the strip you run the danger of ending up on a Mexican hockey card.

Wait till you are 21 if you plan to drink and gamble in Vegas.
