There is no Microsoft convention in Niagara Falls, I can assure you of that.. lol, Niagara Falls is too far off the beaten track for IT geeks..
Also any convention worth it's salt would be cast in stone months in advance..
No idea if the series could be cancelled or not but can't imagine it at this point.
While taking the bus home from another great day at fallsview.
I can tell you we will have Wpt coming February 18-24. With three event. $1100, 2500 and $5000. Satellites starting this week probably Wednesday/Thursday no confirmation on this.
Planning to play $230 deep stack tomorrow at Branford only if I can get up on time.
I phoned today and found out that WPT will be there/and or will be a WPT event. There will be satellites ranging from 270-500 dollars.... I also found out that they are some of the hardest people to talk to lol. I had to phone 3 times just to get a simple/concrete answer that made sense.
So who is going to be attending this for sure? I am going to attend most likely, wondering if anyone is interested in splitting a hotel room? I also might have 1 night free at the Hilton in February.... Would like to go, but don't want to deal with the whole hotel bill....
I will be grinding this fo sho. I live less than an hour's drive away, but I may be looking for somebody to split a motel/hotel (that has a great deal such as from Travelzoo) when grinding the upcoming satellites. Somebody I already know will probably ask me to split a room during ~Feb. 18-24.

There may be an additional and undisclosed 3% fee deducted from the prize pool for staff gratuities. Super satellites will be on Feb. 19 (for $2500 event) and 21 (for $5K event). Updated my OP.
Can confirm harris plays poker like a maniac. Also heard the rumour about the microsoft convention last week as well, may just be heresay. I've spoken to a couple people 'in the know' and they all believe it's all gonna be up and running. CANT WAIT TO PLAY MY FIRST 5K!

Alright, if you guys need a third to split with let me know! Still looking for some people to split with!
Well, they better fix their views on cash games if they want this to work.
There are tons of empty tables in the convention centre once the tournament tables break, they need to staff them and open them. If they maintain the way they run the cash tables the feedback will be terrible from the pros that come in for this.
Just got an official statement from Fallsview. Here is the email!
Good day Colin.
Well it’s all official now, satellite tournaments will be starting today as soon as we can get enough patrons on the interest lists. We will be offering any of the satellites that create enough interest.

Cool cool, besides all well deserved flack fallsview gets, im excited to go back and try my luck this year. I wanna book fallsview early so i can actually get a room again, headed there this weekend even for 4 nights, really hoping the sattys will have started like they claim.
As someone that plays annually in the WSOP in Vegas and WPT events. I don't get the point in only having 3 tournaments. Doesn't make for much of a "poker festival". I was just in the WPT Montreal and the turnout was great, but they also offered buy-ins were much more modest but the fields were a great size. They had 13 sanctioned tournaments in total and I played in most of them. This generates "buzz" and an atmosphere of excitement that you're not going to get by having just 3 tournaments that will draw a limited number of participants. Secondly, almost all major tournaments are well advertised several months in advance. Fallsview doesn't seem to care enough to update their website or promote anything. It just makes no sense to me? Maybe because it's government run? Who knows. It's bad enough that they're not giving the players free anything (room, drinks, etc) like many of us get in Vegas for the WSOP every year. They should be trying to offer us more than the other venues not less!

I guess it's about priorities. They can choose to have this go to a higher level or just have it as a D-list event.
I'm just frustrated that the Ont. gov't is wasting their time and getting upstaged by casinos 1/10th the size when it comes to running poker tourneys.
Every other casino that has big tournaments blocks off their conference rooms for poker tourneys, and then let the bust outs fill in their cash poker tables all week.
I was at Niagara last night and they're computer display rotates through and shows Fallsview activity. Satellites are currently running, but it looked like they only got a few on each interest list last night, not sure that any Sats actually ran.
Please post when anybody sees a satellite running (or the computer display at Niagara flashing ten names). I'll go to Fallsview as soon as the WPT satellite brochures are available or when the satellites start running regularly, hopefully by Friday. Anybody else going this weekend or know of a rake/fee-free satellite (RFS)?
