Throne Speech

Interesting to note that among other things, the government intends to propose legislation that will make a "life" sentence mean just that. As an opponent of the Death Penalty, this is welcome news.

  • What does the death penalty have to do with anything?
  • Not many people who get 25 years to life ever get out anyway. The only thing this will do, if it is enacted, is take away the possibility of parole. But people like Bernardo, Olsen don't ever get granted parole anyway. So this is no big deal.

What is amazing is how willing these so-called Conservatives are to meddle in the free market and tell corporations how to run their businesses. Maybe they should just put price controls on cable and cell phone bills and be done with it? After all, they did steal most of those ideas from the NDP anyway.
  • How long have we had dangerous offender status? They do get a review every two years, but I've never known one who had that reviewed and had the status changed.
  • Hear, hear..the death penalty should be mandatory to anyone that hits a one or two outer on the river.

Death Penalty advocates generally cite our lack of a "true" life sentence when making their case. One less spurious argument for them to foist upon us.

It's a bit of a big deal, as it paves the way for future Bernardos to be given sentences that do NOT allow for "faint hope" or review of any kind.

Cable providers would be moving to a la carte soon as a means to compete with on-line resources like Netflix, so no argument from me.

The Death Penalty is wrong on many levels . . .
  • The Faint Hope Clause has already been repealed.
  • Hence the addition of the phrase "or any other kind of review".
