Nelson Cruz Standing Ovation

Nelson Cruz gets a standing ovation in his first AB. It was LOUD and everyone was on their feet.

When Detroit plays their first game Peralta will get the same welcome.

Before you get all defensive, if it was Bautista or Encarnacion and the Jays were in the playoffs, you would cheer them too.

Nobody cares about PED usage, and it should be allowed.

  • No argument from me . . . but then, I want ALL drugs to be "legal".
  • It's hell when the guy you bought off won't stay bought . . .
  • They should either allow it or permanently ban players who get caught. These half measures are not working.

And while they're at it, reinstate Pete Rose. His gambling offense was minor compared to steroids, where longstanding records were obliterated by juiced up players. We'll never look at 50 hrs in the same way again.
  • His gambling problems call into question the integrity of the decisions he made as Manager, and therefore the integrity of the game. FUCK Pete Rose. And I say that as someone who wishes that more players in professional sports were a competitive as that prick was. But Hall of Fame? NO !!!
  • Integrity of the game? Isn't that at least equally compromised by steroid users?

However, the fact remains that the Dowd Report found no evidence Rose bet against his team. His betting was done as a manager, not a player. Hence his on field performance is without taint. Therefore, compared to steroid users, Rose's transgression is less harmful to the integrity of the game.

And so Hall of Fame: ABSOLUTELY YES!

Or, equal permanent ban of all steroid users. Just end the hypocrisy.
  • Even if he bet on his team to win, it STILL calls into question the integrity of the results. Does he leave his starter in too long, or hook him sooner based on "needing" the win, or covering a point spread? Do those decisions affect games later in the season (or series) that he didn't bet on? Nope, his gambling issues called the integrity of the game into question and that is enough to ban him, in my eyes. I have no problem with barring Bonds, et al, either. I do not give much thought to Halls of Fame anyway, it is the games I enjoy. Everything else is just bar talk, and about as significant.

So, your position is "nobody cares" therefore it should be allowed.

Break the rules that are in place because "nobody cares". Who is nobody? Look for quotes from MLB players after Ryan Braun admitted his usage and excepted his suspension. A-Rod is consider a joke. Bonds, Clemens and the rest of them are considered cheaters they broke the rules well some did, they just can't prove it.

This is the 25th anniversary of the Seoul Games, you know the one where Ben smoked Carl Lewis and won the gold only to be stripped 3 days later and lived in shame as a cheater the rest of his life.

The players union agrees to the tough doping standards that are in place. If they didn't there wouldn't be testing.

Why is it, people feel, the only way to change the law, is to break the law.

If this is really your position, how far down into the minors do you agree it is acceptable for athletes to be on PED?

Wetts, you ok with your family member, your son or daughter's coach preaching and enabling them to use PED's to get an edge to win a high school game or to turn pro if that is what they wanted?

My guess is that if a guy approached your daughter as a junior in high school and said "Work with me for 3 years, take the drugs I give you on a certain day, and you will be an Olympic Champion Gold Medalist". You would be against it. Or maybe your son in grade 10 and said "take these drugs and you will go to NCAA Division One program and have a shot at the NFL". You'd be against it

But maybe I am wrong. Or maybe it's ok for people you don't know to take PED's. Either way until you convince the players union, the track and field community etc that PED's is ok, this isn't worth discussing.

Drug testing is here to stay and they need to start throwing these guys out permanently!

45,000 people gave a standing ovation to Cruz in Texas and Peralta in Detroit. Youtube it, there was nobody sitting down.

    So yes, nobody cares.

These are the same people that will boo Braun and Arod when they show up, so lets just stop with all the fake rage thats going on.

Also, my man Ben wouldnt been deemed a cheater if it was legal.

People choose to do this. Would I? no. Do I care if others do? no. Is it hella entertaining to watch Sosa smash 70 home runs? You bet.
  • Further to the Ben Johnson thing . . . Carl Lewis should not have even BEEN in Seoul, after failing a test during US Olympic trials. Further, it is believed (but not proven) that 6 of the 8 finalists in the 100, that Games were on PEDs. Johnson has worn the hair shirt for it because this is Canada and we over-react to stuff like this. Just look what happens when we do not win Gold at the Juniors . . . Johnson should have been stripped of his medal, based on the rules in place. But it is my belief that he did not get "caught" so much as he was set up. ESPN did a decent documentary on it a while back. The basic premise was that one of Lewis's pals from the Santa Monica Track Club was in the testing room and juiced Ben's beer, causing him to fail.

As you have articulated fans = nobody.

The players do care. Why it is anybody's guess? Owners care, they are the ones paying the cheques.

Players and owners don't want drugs in the game. It takes away from the authenticity of the sport. And I think most fans feel this way too. I loved A Rod in the 90's. I thought he was well on his way to becoming the greatest of all time, but his admission about his 2003 season in Texas takes away all of his accomplishments. Roger Clemens, Barry Bonds, I have no use for them. The broke the rules that are in place instead of having their union brothers back them saying "we want drugs to be allowed" and not sign the drug testing policy.

And while you and other fans may love the bombs, you are sending a terrible message to kids trying to make this legal.
  • As you have articulated fans = nobody.

Owners care, they are the ones paying the cheques.

    1) The fans are the ONLY opinions that matter.

    2) Owners dont give a shit. See the fact that all these (convicted) guys still have contracts as evidence.
  • How many times do you hear about a player that "you hate to play against him, but you love to have him on your team." Claude Lemieux, in hockey, Romanowski in football, etc. The owners care about asses in seats and $$$ in the till . . . and they would hire child-murdering goat rapists, if it meant bringing a Championship ring to their pinkie.

The owners only care about the issue when it's THEIR guy that gets burned. And the only time they REALLY care is if he still has useful years left in him (No one cared about Clemens or Palmeiro because they were finished).

The fans are the same way . . . Tie Domi was a goon, but he was Toronto's goon, so he gets a pass. Same went for Laraque in Montreal (and Tiger Williams and Chris Nilan before them).

The hypocrisy surrounding drug use in sport (PEDs or otherwise) is rampant at ALL levels. Go to a local arena and check the garbage cans in the dressing rooms. You'll find lots of Red Bull and 5 hour energy empties. Horse has left the barn, Brent.
  • Arod, September 2013 (After the initial 200 game suspension).

Hits a grand slam. I can just hear the players verbally whipping his cheating ass as they high five him throughout the dugout.

LOL players are against this. Theyre against it when its convenient for them. If it means it helps them get a ring, they could care less.

Johny Peralta got a 4yr/52m contract this week. Seems like people care.

Regardless, once everyone knows it's just due to the drugs it loses a good portion of it's entertainment value. Nobody cares if a runner is breaking records because he found the right combination of Winstrol and growth hormone to inject. Once it becomes "The most drugs" win....and everyone knows it you can bet it will lose it's entertainment value.
