Impact of Bad Beat Jackpot
I'm curious how others think about this.
I think it affects the game in at least 2 ways:
* attracts gamblers so the games become looser
* encourages people to take speculative hands further in hopes of catching miracle cards.
The staff will tell you that to qualify, AAAKK must be beaten. If you look on the website, it says AAAQQ. The website also says the pot must be minimum $20 but the staff did not mention that. Probably not an issue if you have 2 hands that big.
The casino takes $1 per hand that goes past the flop. Odds of winning if everyone played every eligible hand all the way are around 1 in 100,000 at a 10-handed table. So around 1 in 200,000+ is a more realistic number. The casino keeps 10% for themselves, 10% to re-seed the next pot and pays out 80% for the BBJ. Has anyone ever heard of the BBJ getting bigger than $150k? #scamalert
What changes do you expect to see from games with BBJ?
What strategies do you use to maximize/compensate for this?

I like to think it doesn't impact my play much as I realize the odds are against hitting. I've been playing in rooms around Vancouver for 7 years now and have been IN the room when the bad beat hit exactly twice. That number was once prior to last weekend.
If I'm honest, I probably call raises more often in position with suited connectors, one gapped suited connectors etc, particularly if it looks like there's a big pot brewing.
also they bring in players and stuff so its good for the room but not as good for the fish i guess, i really dont mind BBJs but ive hit 2...
Harder to make two straight flushes when it's 79dd vs. 8Jdd? Where harder is defined as totally impossible.
That said, I will still likely make that call in position because the pot will be large and because there's a big part of my brain that is a total damned idiot.
nah, we all get wide eyed at the thought of jackpots..
We almost lost betrthanphil when he first started posting, we may have lost Flopped_Nuts after he got accused of being philiivey but hopefully not lose Monoxide if he really does live in Barrie and plays at Rama & Fallsview. While all the Rama and Brantford tournaments keep selling out, no forumers seemed to play live anymore until new members like Flopped_Nuts and Monoxide replied to my threads.
Fed?

ill probably play the rama tourney next week on 26th, a lot of value in them and decent structure for the 4 hours in the beginning, then it ramps up the gamble 5 hours+ by a lotttt. was drinking stellas the whole time im surprised no one saw me, long hair/beard/hoodie and UFC hat.
Though Pokerstars doesnt have a bad beat jackpot.. at least I won the hand.
Quad 10s over Aces full
makes sense lol, dunno why i thought more people from here were playing it.
i was in the farthest corner away from the door in the tournament half of the poker room. busted at that table.
