Today's Brantford Deepstacker

Made a last minute entry into todays Deepstacker @ Branty. It is still the hole of a city that I remember and no Blondefish today. Where art thou Blondefish today? Only 68 runners today...

O, Juliet, buying into a high-rake tourney is such sweet sorrow, that I shall say good night till it be morrow.
Shakespearean translation: Romeo don't play tournaments with 20% rake ($100+$25), but will play Monday at Rama, & possibly Sunday & Tuesday too. :p

It's good that Branty still got 68 players despite the hard-to-beat rake. With only 5% rake, Rama's $285+$15 sold out early yet again for Monday 1 PM. Are you, D. Negreanu or any other forumer besides Monoxide playing? piggypie123 suspects that Monoxide = banned Fed. Can any mod confirm?
  • lol D Negreanu

Yeah, I figured the poop rake kept you away. For the next while I'm quite busy, which is why I chose to play today because I might not be able to play anything for some time. I'm not playing Monday at Rama, but what is this Tuesday tournament you speak of? I glanced around quickly but didn't see anything too special advertised. It would be tight squeezing it in but things might open up as they did today.

A couple friends have been bugging me to do a drunk CNE trip, which might be all the action I will see for now...

Who is this Fed character? Yes, I'm too lazy and not interested enough to go through past posts to figure it out on my own ???

Don't worry Fed cannot afford the rake alone, but he is saving up.

  • who is banned fed, guy in other thread said something like that?

i typed canada poker forum into google and thats how i found this site... im not hard to find in real life at rama or fallsview to ID me... LOL >:D>:D>:D>:D>:D>:D

Brantford Tuesday has the same admin fee as the one you played today, but instead of only $100 each going to the prize pool, $155 goes to the pool so I'll try to play.

Fed aka costanza aka Kony, etc. was an online playa who threw away everything to play professionally, but first has to learn simple things like rake and how to remain a member of a poker forum without getting banned.

Wow, that's a huge distance to keep playing cash games. Why do you like travelling to both?
  • more 2/5 action at fallsview due to that being the minimum, sometimes i play late and rama will only have 1/2nl tables running, mostly during the week though. 2/5 is great at either venue on weekends.

that costanza thread is super long but i like a good read.

While intriguing, it's a waste of your time. Wait until you have nothing else to do, other than move a couch. Even just a little bit.
  • Have you tried Woodbine yet with $5 max rake, 40-60 hands/hour, 50¢/hour money reward, no tipping, & no BBJ rake?

These two older gentlemen today were talking about their Woodbine exploits. They came to the conclusion that the computer system would help you win the first 1-2k but that after that it would make you lose and that everything would be a set up.

    God Bless them

Are the weekday PM tournaments there capped at 40 or 80?

I don't know if I can brave rush hour traffic on the QEW /403 to make it there...

The Monday & Tuesday night tourneys are capped at 40. The Deep Stack on the last Sunday of the month is again being shown as capped at 100 players, so hopefully Brantford won't turn away players after 80 like last month.

Yes, if you're coming from the Barrie area, you will have to leave extra early to make it for 7 PM. I estimated that I can only make it to a Brantford Monday tourney if I'm done at Rama by 4:30 PM.

I'm about 40 min south of Barrie but would be tilting when I arrived in Brantford driving though the white knuckle traffic to get there.

Good luck and be sure to put something up about both events...

If I posted a poker report every time I played a live game, that would take up almost as much bandwidth as the Off Topic Lounge! ;)

Fair enough. Can you at least try the new Yogurty's that opend up across from the casino and give it a review? I've heard great things.
  • There are Yogurty's everywhere, even that "hole of a city" Brantford! Is there anything special with the one across Rama? If I recognize who Monoxide & philiivey are, maybe they'll choose that place to play bankroll-crippling Credit Card Roulette.

I meant the one across from Brantford. Funny thing is there isn't even one in my city, yet Brantford has one!

I've seen it and have always wondered if they measure up to Menchie's.

There's an outside chance I can make tuesday's tournament. Did you register recently and if so how many are signed up?

Yeah it sounds really nice and i will try it sometime, i play online tons though and something about the chips/cards and stuff i really like and also being away from a screen feels good.

In honour of Flopped_Nuts - who may have been driven away like betrthanphil, 13CARDS, etc. from contributing any more poker-related posts - in case other forumers are playing tonight's bounty or Sunday tournament, any interest in checking out Yogurty's as part of the "Forumers' Tour of Casino Eateries" if we finish < 10 PM closing time? In all the years that I've played at Brantford, I have never crossed the north street to know what's on the other side. :-[

"Why did the poker player cross the street?"
  • What is the starting stack for the deepstack tournaments in Brantford? It doesn't say in the rules and regulations on the OLG poker tourney calendar site. Also what is the freeze out starting stacks?

    Nevermind I found it. 15,000
  • The "Deep Stack" tourneys start with 15,000. This bounty and other tourneys >= $100 start with 10,000.
  • I'm thinking of playing the $230 Deepstack on Sep. 8.

    Any others considering playing?

Hmm, $230? I'd consider it. What time does it start at? I live in Scarborough and have class on Monday mornings, so I'd hope it starts early enough that it will finish before 10 or so as I have to drive all the way back home.
  • Starts at 11am and I think it usually runs a good 8-10 hrs, but if you play your cards right you can be home in time for a late lunch.

    :D
  • Anybody else playing in today's Deep Stack with up to $40,000 prize pool?

    Would love to, but no.

  • Coles Notes: worthy dessert for the next Forumers' Night Out At Brantford. After we all cash in the next Deep Stack, we can celebrate in the newly renovated Brantford restaurant then go for dessert at Yogurty's.

Google Maps had shown Yogurty's as north of the casino so I crossed the road north but could not find it. There was a young stranger walking on the street and I noticed he had a hoody, sunglasses with earbuds so I said to myself, "Aha, a poker player!" He pointed me directly to where Yogurty's is so I went back south.

Surprisingly, Yogurty's was empty. The only girl working there gave me a free sample and answered my many questions. There were eight main flavours in this location, which opened in July 2012. I'm a chocoholic so I started off with the most chocolatey flavour, then added Peanut Butter & Jelly, then Strawberry. My toppings included Mango, Chocolate Sprinkles, Double Chocolate Cookie Dough, and every chocolatey item. The price is based per ounce and she told me that you could keep weighing your cup - so that you won't spend away your tournament buy-in. I heard there's supposed to be chocolate sauce in a hot pot but she didn't tell me about it.

My chocoholic yogurt came out to almost $7 then she took a dollar off, then gave a me a Sears $10 off coupon. It tasted good and I will take my kid to try it, but it's not cheap to eat it regularly. The Chapman's Frozen Yogurt (Dutch Chocolate flavour) that we had bought from the grocery store for only $4 for 2L tastes just as good to me. I remember taking my kid to Dairy Queen for Miracle Treat Day, and I think that once the trendiness is gone, a Yogurty's franchise will struggle against all the DQ and Baskin-Robbins locations.
