2013 WPT Montreal Satellites Begin Aug 5th on Party Poker

Hello all,

2013 WPT Montreal Satellites Begin Aug 5th on Party Poker, this time around it looks like there will be even more packages at 5k + Hospitality vs $6,500

The Event is a $3,850, the only Canadian Televised event to be shot this fall and the only one happening in Montreal that a even min-cash would be worth your time. I your going to take a 5k trip, plan on winning at least that or much more!

Lots of US players where talking about this event at the tables when they found out the wife was Canadian, so I'm hoping to see an even stronger turnout that the record setting $3.4 million dollar prize-pool last year at $3,300.

Here is the qualifying info for PartyPoker, if you need an account support the forum by signing up via the PFC Banner over there >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

    When is the series?

Hey, you used it first and taught me the word!

Nov 29th to Dec 5th is Main, but side schedule should start at least a week before that. They usually have a 100k GTD multiday, re-entry $150 that sees insane numbers (like 1500 runners, 200k+ PP and 35k-40k up top) and some 500s and a 1k that due better than most Canadian events.

Will post the actual info for this year when available
  • The question has come up from T8urmoney, too. Just as PokerStars VIP, mikelbyl, Tony's G, etc. have all disclosed which poker business they're posting for on this forum, which business do you represent, jontm - PartyPoker and/or Playground Poker?

Batman: Who are you working for?

  • I don't really care your affiliation as I'm just a simple soul playing some cash games now and again.

We should grab a drink once I am settled back in Calgary...do you play/hang out at any poker rooms regularly?

Not really regularly. Last tourney was at good old Cash Casino, last cash Game at Elbow for some 4/8 FL. I'd say Grey Eagle and Deerfoot are where I've spent most time.

I am a freelancer & blogger of sorts. This we must always remember. I've worked with both Party & FTP on spreading the word for events, sometimes just via an involved person. I've worked with Titan on getting pictures for a cover, I've worked with PokerNews.com writers on who is rocking it here (BTP).

I would stress if I post anything that doesn't sound like PR work or is negative, it ain't commissioned in anyway and is simply me looking to instigate discussion with fellow PFC members.

FTP hate for example....I was asked to help promote Miriam event by board members, I accepted on a volunteer basis having a son with autism, spent at least 100 hours and every networking resource I had to do so, it did amazing whether through any of my help or not then FTP shut down caused hardship for both communities; poker and those with disabilities via scandle.

My point is my hate is always personal, "love" could be either an employer or just something I give a shit about.

I can't really claim to work for anyone in the poker world, but I've worked for many. I'm just on my way to do some cross border shopping, but will better explain later if needed.

I make my money via plumbing, gas fitting and H&S.
  • Thanks for both posts.

    The Good
    - Much better without the huge $2,000 charge from the previous package for only a Montreal hotel and "hospitality." For that much money, my friend was expecting a penthouse suite with the Royal Flush Girls included as amenities! >:D It's great that players can choose their own accommodation (from the spending money), & that there is no more charge for hospitality.

    - While PartyPoker has been going downhill since the bwin.party takeover (including player segregation), it was a good sponsor of the poker charity event in Montreal, including inviting the players ripped off :rage: by scummy Full Tilt Poker.

To be continued with the not so good....
  • can we start a thread for online and live sats to major Canadian events?
  • The Bad

Playground Poker has hidden fees that are not properly disclosed to players, like some non-Ontario casinos. It deducts an extra 3% for "staff gratuities" from the prize pools but most players will not know about it. The WPT Montreal main event is actually $3,395 + $105 gratuities + $350 admin fee, so the total rake is 12%. This could be the highest rake among all WPT events with similar buy-in, including Legends of Poker (>=5%), Borgata (>=6%), Emperors Palace (>=8%), and Jacksonville (9%, properly disclosed as $3200+$240+$60)! :o

Players who play WPT events will again complain about Playground's harder-to-beat rake.

    Other Notes
    - Strangely, PartyPoker started the satellites almost four months early. The last satellite is not until November 24, so there is no hurry.

    - I was hoping to transfer all my Party cash balance to Wetts1012, and all my tournament dollars to somebody like jontm and move on from Party, but meh, I guess I'll pay the minimum rake to try to qualify.

  • Pretty sure only 1% of those playing a WPT event in Montreal will complain about the rake. All the rest of us will be grateful that there is a wpt event in Canada, and at a world class poker facility like Playground Poker who actually care about growing poker in Canada.

    ...charging $14 rape
  • Anyone having any luck in these? Believe a few PFCers qualified last time...
  • My friend has been dominating them with two $5,000 wins plus a ~$1,000 cash consolation. :wav:

Is there no hotel included in the package this year?
  • No, he has to pay for and arrange his accommodation.

  • So then why the 5k and not just a ME seat?
  • According to the site,
"Each package is worth $5,000: your tournament entry worth $3,650 (CAD $3,850) and $1,350 in spending money."

So he's supposed to get U$1,350 in spending money every time he wins a package. I'll ask him if he has received the U$2,700 cash.

  • How many forumers are going to this? I'm really looking forward to some trip reports in the future.
One day I would love to play in Montreal, it's sounds a lot easier then going to Vegas. You dont lose 30% or whatever it is on your winnings, no crossing the border, and no airplanes. Maybe next year.

You are correct. I have won a WSOP Las Vegas package, but took an alternate option, as I would much rather play at a WSOP/WPT event in Canada with no 30% withholding and not being detained by US Homeland Security.
How many forumers are going to this?
The November WPT/WSOP events in Quebec will have the most publicity, so I would think that some forumers will at least take a shot at a rake-free satellite or drive to Quebec to play the raked satellites. If I had to guess, the forumers most likely heading to Quebec in November include:
    westside8, crazykoby, Wetts1012, SteveKerr, AAAsWILD, hiphopopotamus, BlondeFish, actyper, Popkorn, Monoxide;
    SirWatts, xx23.
  • I'm looking at the week of Nov 18-24th for WSOPc main and WPT prelims. The BC one is looking less likely for me with a trip to Miami the same weekend as the main event.

My plan was to arrive Wednesday night (20th) and play Day 1c of the main on Thursday (21st) but looking at the schedule on lac-Leamy day 1c is is on the the 20th. So I am not sure what I am going to do now.

    Might go when Wes is going. So I can play a $365, $1125, $580 (15th to 18th)

Actually, I prefer this schedule. It's also better for me (15-18)

Lmk if you guys want to extend the hotel stay by a day or two each way
  • I work the 16th and 17th so don't think I'll be there at the same time as you guys.

What I'm leaning towards right now would be the $365 on 18th and $1675 day 1a on 19th with an extra shot at the $1675 on the 20th if I'm feeling up for it.
  • I'd like to show up on 1c as well to play the main then head to playground ...the less days I have to take of work the better but does anyone have any concerns about capacity for 1c? I feel like i've read 400 max somewhere
  • To the ~six people so far who are going during the very weird scheduling of WSOP-C Lac-Leamy, are you driving back the following week during the WPT Montreal ME?

My tentative schedule is to drive with my family on November 22-24, then drive again with a friend on November 27 to December (?).

I may be in the minority, but I preferred the hotel inclusion in these. It comes with perks not noted elsewhere:

    - Shuttle bus just for Party players
    - I rented a car, the $30 / day charge for parking was covered by Party
    - Front of the registration line (which was huge last year, saved me and Act about an hour at least)
  • IT DEPENDS on how much the site is taking away from YOUR prize for the hotel & hospitality (H&H). When actyper and I won our WSOP ME packages in 2009, the hotel, shuttle, no lining up, VIP parties, Mike Sexton Lounge, etc. were all FREE. Since then, when you and I won our packages, a high price has been charged for the H&H that used to be free, but you don't have to be as savvy as "moose" to easily find a better value in choosing your own accommodation.

My friend who has won a couple of packages knows that it's great that he can choose his own accommodation, as Montreal hotels won't cost anywhere near $2,000. Another friend who has played in the two previous WPT ME has relatives in Montreal so he wouldn't want to have $2K deducted. A third friend who's going to Montreal this week has chosen to stay in a $40/night Kahnawake motel.

PartyPoker is promoting WPT Montreal as "live life like a superstar for a week" so I would expect things like the shuttle, priority registration, parties, outings with the Royal Flush Girls, etc. to continue. The big difference is that it is not charging the winners like my friend $2K this time, so as Party puts it, he will "get to mix with poker celebs, play for a 6-figure top prize and party like a pro – all for nothing!" :cool2:

I always prefer hotel and amenity package as well. I'm lazy and prefer everything taken care of. The perks package with this years wsop with party was incredible even if I didn't do everything.

For Montreal especially cabbing to playground is expensive. I didn't know parking was that expensive as well
