Personally, I look at it this way . . . the WSOP is privately owned. Therefore, they can host whatever kinds of events they choose and, if there is enough of an issue, people will vote with their dollars, as is currently being suggested viz. the Venetian.
that is definitely true. i don't think for a second that the wsop is doing this to help women. they're doing it to make money.
It should be added that it's not really a rights issue - it's about people in leadership positions in poker doing what they can to grow the game in non-traditional (i.e., male) communities. I don't see what could possibly be wrong with that.
In other words, if you were in a leadership position in an industry based on a game that is completely playable by men and women, but traditionally you've only been achieving significant growth among 50% of your potential audience, why on earth wouldn't you roll out the red carpet to try and appeal to the other 50%?

Any chance Playground will do this again?
I went to the first HHPT event & while there was a number of female Pro's there that Playground had brought in, the structure was not worth the drive from Toronto. I heard the next couple of events had no pro's, low turnouts, and a similar structure with a low patience factor. I haven't seen any new events listed on the HHPT website for Playground in quite some time.
I would love to come back to Playground for another ladies event but wouldn't consider travelling that far for anything below a 20 patience factor. Hopefully, I will get the chance soon
Hey Gottaget - the HHPT predates my time here, so I don't know much about it. We get a relatively high proportion of women (my estimate) in regular tourneys here anyhow, at least by poker standards.
Thanks for the response Mike. Although I have to say that I'm surprised/disappointed by your response given your previous comments itt.
I have played in many casinos in Canada & the US and I've played 2x @ Playground in mixed tourneys....my estimate is that you have the same proportion of women as everywhere else.
Playground is amazing and I'm sure I'll be there at some point this fall...but I'm still hoping that you will be "rolling out the red carpet" for the ladies sometime in the near future..

Met her briefly at ceremony and took a pic for a write up. She let my kids see bracelet up close, nice lady.
