Upcoming Changes at Bristol (Preview)

Hi everyone,

With Bristol Street 60 coming up on the horizon, I'm going to be detailing a few changes to help improve the game, along with numbers. These are going to be things like; changing the starting stack, tweaking the levels (only a little), alter how seating works, etc.

Once thing I keep going back and forth on, is the High Hand Jackpot. I have two options and, before I announce all my changes, I wanted to get feedback on this one item..

Here are the possible changes I'd like feedback on. I'm have two debates going on..

a) Should I keep the same, or modify it, or eliminate it altogether. If modified, we'd change it to "player with the highest hand at break wins the pot." There's currently ~$500 in unclaimed jackpots, so if we went this way I'd seed each night with $20 until the pot runs dry.

b) If we went this route, should we change the HH buyin to be $5?

c) Finally, should we use HH to enforce showing up early? (ie. TD's have used lower starting stacks as a form of enouragement, but since mine are week nights, there are many valid reasons why people may be late; family, dinner, work, etc.) We could make it so that HH is only available until 6:55.

The High Hand stuff, is something I've identified as something that slows me down in getting tournaments started, so I'm looking to improve this.

Thanks for your help and feedback! Looks for the rest of the changes to be announced soon!

Rob.

  • If it's a bother, I would vote for get rid of it all together.

What to do with the $500?? How about a tournament where people get $1000 in chips for each Bristol Street they've attended since you started the HH?? (Only applicable events of course ;-).

  • Keep the money and buy a new kickass table.
  • I've seen many tourneys where your chipstack is tied to showing up on time to eliminate tardiness...ie 500 extra chips for those who've paid by 6:55. HH only affects those who pay into it...and even then it wouldn't get me there sooner.
  • Stop the HH jackpot. Give the full $500 jackpot to the first person to get a Royal Flush at Bristol, using at least one of their hole cards, in a NLHE game. (Just my opinion.)

Or as moose said, buy table(s). Everyone benefits from better tables.

I also like the early bird registration bonus idea to get people there on time.
  • I'm a fan of the table idea.

  • I'm not a fan of the early bird thing...

I don't recall seeing too much disruption for lateness at Bristol, and I'm going to often be just in time, or a bit late because of my work. Should I get punished even though I've been one of the longest term / most dedicated players?

it's not a punishment...it's a thank you to players who show up on time! The "punishment" has nothing to do with seniority or dedication (sounds almost fair when I put it that way). It's just a way to get people in the seats earlier to make life easier for Rob.

When you play at the casino you can sometimes buy an extra "dealer's bonus" top up for an extra $10. This is your option....just like showing up on time. I'm willing to spot everyone 500 chips if I decide to be late (I'm late often, shouldn't those who show up on time have a slight bonus?)
  • Don't play here anymore, and I played towards the latter part when you started doing the high hand. I have no problems with it going towards the host and any equipment you may have bought or will buy.
  • I've always bought into the HH and I wouldn't really miss it much. I also vote for him using the existing pot for a table or whatever.

    +1.
  • I have been to a tourney here once and late once, for ME specifically I live out in the sticks and work 50 wednesdays a year or more, so be it, if such a thing was to be only for early birds, your turnouts would probably end up worse somehow my guess, keep it and get supplies!
  • I would suggest getting rid of the high hand if it is an issue. My biased opinion would be to play a tournament for the pot of money based on how much you put into it over the years if it is possible to figure out.

That being said I would also be okay with the money being reinvested into the bristol casino.

The other questions would only apply if the high hand stays. But I would not use the high hand to enforce early arrival. I would use starting stack as the motivation.

    Steve.
  • Thanks for the suggestions everyone. I'd feel kinda weird using it to upgrade a table, but it may actually guilt me into running more regular games. I also like the idea of just keep some set aside for the first person to hit a royal.

Thanks again for the suggestions. Lots to think about. Keep em coming!

Also, Bristol this Wed. in celebration of Mark's bDay. Look for the announcement later today!
