The Poker Summit (not CAPS)
in Buy and Sell
As you may be aware, the Canadian Annual Poker Summit (CAPS) was cancelled a few days ago. We had made a sponsorship commitment to CAPS, created promotional materials and also made arrangements to bring Bob "The Poker Coach" Ciaffone to Toronto to speak at the March 19 event. Having already spent several thousands of dollars on this, we don't want to have wasted our time and money.
As well, we know that many people were looking forwards to this opportunity to learn from some of the foremost poker experts in Canada and the world. Amid this disappointment and uncertainty, we had an idea that it might be a good idea to proceed with our own event, though likely on a smaller scale and budget than the original. We made a few phone calls and this is what we've gathered:
Bob is still interested in making a presentation, as are Dave Scharf, Amy Calistri and some of the other speakers (details TBD). As well, a few media sponsors (like Bluff Magazine and the new Canadian Casino & Gaming Television network launching May 1) have agreed to come on board to help us promote our event and give away freebies to participants.
We first thought of this on Thursday night (March 3) and - in the last 40 hours - we've made a lot of progress. We will decide whether or not to proceed on Tuesday afternoon (March 8). The only things we need to know are: a) are enough people interested in attending for us to justify the hard work and expense of putting this together on such short notice; and b) should we do this on the originally scheduled date (March 19) or work towards creating something larger and more polished for this Spring?
If you're interested in attending or participating in other ways, please let us know by filling in the form at http://www.thepokersummit.com
We'll contact everyone who signs-up on Tuesday afternoon with the definitive word of whether or not we'll be proceeding.
Thank you all.

Do it, do it!
Seems like they want to gauge how much interest there is (without actually forcing you to register ahead of time... smart move!) before they attempt to go ahead and organize it.
Hmm.. should I have capitalized esool as esooL instead?

I already did!
I was recently thinking the same thing.(it makes it a little more obvious) Is there a way to change it on my main profile?
I don't think it's possible to change your username. D'oh!

I would love to have more people fill out the survey though. Maybe one of the moderators can move this to another section of the forum? maybe general or BM?

Patience (although we are likely going to move it to May).

There is also an opportunity to suggest a fee for the program. I understand that Dave may also attend. I am not affiliated with this sponsor just interested in the speakers and would like to see it come off.
.....how odd!
(Sorry, couldn't resist. I hope it goes well and I hope it is in May when I can actually attend.)
I'd rather have them take the extra time to organize something of high quality, rather than have to scramble to get something going on the original date.
Further dissociating themselves from the original CAPS may not be the worst idea in the world either...
ScottyZ
i'd appreciate that for sure.
thanks
Thanks for the "news".
Perhaps you should read or reread the 1st page from this thread..
Sorry. I caused some confusion here.
I merged screenman's post into this thread from another, so if his post looks a bit silly to you in a thread that's already discussed this, it's mostly my fault.
I'm just starting to noodle around with some Mod features that I haven't tried yet (like merging & splitting threads). I guess I should try to make a little remark about it when I merge threads.
ScottyZ
you call it a merger, i call it a hostile takeover ... now were did i put those poison pills
I also attempted to merge this thread with Falconbridge, but that fell through at the last minute.

We'd never dream of it. Most likely will be the last weekend in May (before the WSOP stuff gets into full gear).
Zithal, would CnR be what we are today without staying consistent to our pattern? You know how to do it - take the proposed date and 2 months. Why would you even ask the question
