Headphones at table.

I know there are a few people here that wear them.

My question is, how come? I tried it a little bit when I first started playing but found it to be a little distracting..and I was worried I would miss something going on at the table.

Plus wearing them and listening to music also kind of limits your conversation so really limits the fun you can have I feel.... now I'm playing very low stake tournaments and cash games so probably a little different if you are playing in say a WSOP event where I am sure everyone is all SERIOUS BUSINESS.

Past couple weeks however i've been paired with a few real loudmouth serious business donkeys and I've just so happened to have my tunes handy..kind of a godsend.

    This is the correct answer.

I generally dislike people, and/or hearing what they have to say.

We are kindred spirits Sir. Never has someone so succinctly scribed my life philosophy.
  • also a possibility to wear your headphones but not having music going. you'll still hear the table talk and at the same time people won't talk to you.
  • Another option is to use one of the bone conduction headphones in which you can hear the music without putting the buds inside your ears, so your ears are open to hear important sounds. My kid uses the AfterShokz Sportz 2 while walking to school with her iPod but she can still hear the cars that don't obey the traffic lights.

Since poker is a game of information, cutting off one of your senses is a big leak, like not being able to hear the dealer and players, or not being able to see well with sunglasses.
  • I keep the music relatively quiet and usually keep one ear free. Like BlondeFish I like to hear what people are saying.

Sometimes when I find someone irritating or annoying I will pump up the music to drown them out.
  • I play at the "Holy Trinity of NL 1/2" in Southern Ontario and all 3 poker rooms at Casino Niagara, Woodbine Racetrack and Casino Rama don't allow headphones or any other electronic devices while at the tables. Friggin' sucks as we are always asked to put them away every single time!
  • Now that Fallsview has copied Woodbine in allowing live straddles, Woodbine has 3-bet by allowing earphones and music! :o So if you dislike people, you can now set up your electronic device AWAY from the table to get it ready for your private listening, then sit down and listen to your heart's content . If you want to touch or make any adjustment to your device, you have to step AWAY from the table first, just like looking at your cellphone.

The next step in this poker arms race is that I will be allowed to wear Google Glass at the poker table. >:D

I am doing the Canadian Casino tour in just over a week, Windsor then to Fallsview and any money left:D Woodbine and Rama.
  • Win the WSOP ME satellite at Windsor, live straddle at Fallsview & win the BBJ, listen to house music at Woodbine while winning the $560 SNG, then chop heads-up with a forumer at Rama. EZ game.

  • I think headphones kill the fun attitude I like to have at the table...nothing like a table full of disgruntled former internet players grinding 2/5 in Vegas absolutely killing the game by wearing headphones and using ipads...I think it affects tournament games less as no one plays many hands in those anyhow;) and there is less need to keep the fish entertained to keep them at a table

Let us know when you plan to be at Woodbine...have you decided on a player ID name yet? How about "FilgetmeanIV' :) I plan to be there Tuesday morning and likely Thursday.

I for one am glad that headphones are now allowed at Woodbine. All they need now is some wifi. Won't have to listen to Chris whine all day.

Can you confirm if Woodbine has forbidden the music devices again?
By the way, who is Chris?
  • I play a ton of live these days

Headphones are a blessing from the lord Jesus Christ himself, it saves me from listening to withered old regs that actually think they are good , babble about stupid hands, or the weather.
