Saw him live a few years ago at the NHL Awards perform the hockey song live while sitting in Henrik Zetterberg's seat. Will never forget that experience.
Now my heart will still ache when I hear his words...
Caught him live in Guelph a few years back, easily one of the most enjoyable concerts I've been to. Read both of his autobiographies (have them signed too - my brother in law is friends of the family), and loved that this is a man who stood up for what he believed, and didn't need accolades (he famously returned all his Juno awards due to a disagreement with their practices).
You can't call yourself a Canadian without being able to sing along to one of his songs.
many years ago
Would sit in the men's room, playing for beer.
Legend has it, this is when he was asked to stop marking the floor, and he brought in a piece of wood, because his feet needed to move while he played!
First experience with Stompin' Tom was watching the gig they filmed at the Horseshoe in T.O. with my folks. Not sure what network, but it might have been CBC.
They played the Good Old Hockey Game tonight between the 3rd and OT in Kitchener (a long-standing tradition). Everyone sang along and the refs and players seemed to dawdle a bit so that we made it to "the home team wins!" instead of it being cutoff mid-song as per usual. What a great song (one of many) from a Canadian icon who will live on a long time through his music.

if you look closely I think that might be a youngish comp in the background.
Very sad day for Canada.
