April 2013 Trip....

Well, I've decided to celebrate my 40th year on this planet by taking a trip to Vegas for the first time. Going during the week of the 22nd...

This was originally supposed to be a guys trip....but it now looks to be a "guy" trip as my friends are either unable to get time off work...or just don't have any interest. Ah well...don't have to deal with other people and what they want to do. Can play where I want and as long as I want.

Been looking at flights and hotels...looking at staying somewhere mid-Strip. Pretty much narrowing it down to the following based on price, location etc...if anyone has any feedback, it's appreciated. This will also depend on flight price as well...

TI
Planet Hollywood
Mirage
Ballys
Harrahs

Mostly, I like playing limit....somewhere in the 3-6 to 4-8 range. Not a big fan of NL cash games to be honest...but can play them as required. Reviewing the different rooms (plus reviewing action on the Bravo poker app) have put the following poker rooms on my list to try to check out...I'm sure the list will expand as time goes on

Bellagio
Venetian
Mirage
Orleans (try a 'locals' casino...plus they have O/8...a game I haven't played live before)
Flamingo
Aria
MGM Grand

Anyway, if anyone has any suggestions on hotels, poker rooms, stuff to do (not a club-goer) outside of gambling....feel free to reply.

  • You may have to pay resort fees at Mirage. I've stayed at Bally's and Flamingo, both are fine. I've heard the PH is nice too, just a bit pricier.

For FL games, most of the casinos you've listed run 3-6, or 4-8 depending on the time of day.

Love the Bravo app. Very handy.

For other ideas on stuff to do, check out any TR from myself, Moose or Compuease. Lots of interesting shenanigans posted in the past.
  • I'm also booked for a 40th Bday trip that week - 25th to 30th.

Staying at TI for the first time and looking forward to staying at a "nicer" hotel this time. If you have a TI card already they may still have a promo going where you get the poker rate with no playing time obligation. I also got the $25 resort fee waived since I don't care about the ameneties that the fee covers as the poker room has free wi-fi.

As for poker rooms, I think MGM will still be a temporary room in April, so it'll probably suck again. On that end of the strip ARIA has the best action, best room, best dealers, best comps, best food........ I played $1/$3 and $2/$5 there 2 days straight last trip and loved it. Not sure how their limit action is.

I'll be playing mostly $1/$3 NL at TI and Wynn, but I was thinking of checking out a couple of other rooms as well, depending on action - Bellagio, Ceasars, and Orleans.
  • Well got my flight booked and room is booked at Bally's. All set to go for a 5 night stay.

    Looking forward to it.:)
  • Well, 12 hrs to touchdown in Vegas!

Anybody played the $55 dailies ($1k gtd) at TI?
  • Can you let me know if TI will agree to waive the "resort fee" upon your request at the front desk when you check in. I am staying there in June and have no need for these services either. I figured they were mandatory. Thanks.
  • Resort fees are mandatory and a lot of the nicer hotels will charge a resort fee. Some promos will waive them but you need to do this before you get there. I have stayed at TI several times and the room was just as nice as the mirage next door, very comfy bed. Seemed to be more quiet in the room at TI as I could hear a lot of hall noise at Mirage. The poker room at TI was small and cave like, they may have changed it? I have not been to the TI room in the last 2 years. The Mirage room is open to the casino and I would just play there as you can jump on the Tram from TI to Mirage. The Mirage waiting lists moved fast and did not have to wait long to get on a cash table or sit and go. The daily tournaments were good. Caesars is next door to Mirage (mega stack in June) and the Venetian(deep stack series in June) is across the street, so TI is a great value even with the resort fee IMO and easy walk to great poker rooms.
  • Well I'm back from my trip and had a great time....I'll post a trip report soon.

    Cliff Notes:

    1. Cash games were a small loss in terms of results.
    2. Played 8 tourneys...cashed twice, made final table 5 times, and bubbled a final table in another one.
    3. Never lost a craps session.
    4. Never won a 'Let It Ride' session.

They waived them for us last week, but I arranged it when I booked through the players club.
