The Life Of Pro

someone said to me the other day, "how do these big players live? their lives must be up and down so much...how could anyone live like that?"

now, i'm not sure that's true, but i really have no basis for argument.
the person was referring to how a pro player could win a lot one month, than lose a ton the next...

i'm sure there may be individuals out there that do it that way, but for the most part, i would think the guys (and girls) we always see sitting in the final tables, must have some consistency to there lifestyles and bankrolls.

is there anyway to find some info or proofs for this?

    I've seen it said in various sources (books, Cardplayer Mag, etc) that most professionals do not live on poker alone. Many have investment portfolios which allow them to maintain a steady income. This is often a low risk thing that gives them some financial security and freedom.

    I would guess that it is basic money management. This is my poker money and this is my living money and never shall they meet.

    Back in his early days he did. I didn't mean to imply he still does.
    Pretty sure he's doing OK now. lol Back in the 50's/60's though, way before online gambling and casinos built everywhere, he hit the road travelling and played money games. Now that's hardcore old school poker. lol

    They have backers. There are a lot of people out there who do have money. Wish theyd put me in tournaments.
