Gift Idea - Slot Car Racing

Anyone into electric slot car racing? Looking for a decent slot car set for my son. Want something that's decent and can be added to over time. Based on my limited research, there appear to be two main manufacturers, Carrera and Scalextric.

Any preference to manufacturer? What would be a good intro set? Probably looking at a budget of $200ish. Any decent hobby stores in the GTA you can recommend. This one looks decent:

    Good store here Race Haven Hobbies - Full website coming soon! if your in brampton. My uncle bought scalextric. I cant remember the scale but they are bigger than the small ones around when i was a kid. I would guess the cars are about 5 or 6 inches long. Got it to fit on a 4 x 8 plywood sheet. Its cool stuff but you have to get the lap time/counter otherwise your just going in circles sans point.
