Hand analysis
I got VERY lucky on this hand; but I don't know if I could play it different.
What do you think?
Blinds are 25/50 - I have about 5K, large stack at the table, one or two in the tourney.
Folded to me On the Button - T9h - raise double the blinds (early on in the tourney and I have seen limpers with AA, KK, QQ and AK, so a little gunshy) I want a call but am scared of it as well, a fold does me ok too.
SB folds, BB calls has about 3K. Not a tricky player, very straight foward player.
Flop - 998 rainbow - woohoo.
He checks
I bet 100, a read told me he had caught part of it, lets see how much.
He calls.
Ok so maybe a nine? No he would be more aggressive, I don't think he has any more to his play then bet or call. I didn't think Im being set up. Maybe 8's?
Turn - 8 - wow that's money!
He checks.
I bet 300, lets see how much he has of it. If only has an 8 then I'm going to rape him!
He calls. Ok well he has some of this, str draw, over pair, 8's for a smaller or 9 and we split.
River 8 - shit, did he have an 8? Ok what does he do, I have the nut fullhouse only thing that beats me is an 8.
He bets 500.
Damn he had an 8, no he didn't only 500? he has the same thing I do. I quickly call and say "I guess we're splitting'.
He says "nope" and shows me an 8.
He makes his quads and I am happy it only cost me $500 more. He probably could have got me for 1000 on the end at least, if he went all in I don't know if I call.
I have had this happen 3 times in the last couple of weeks. Once for $500 at a $100NL table, I raised, he reraised all in , I called just to see his quads take out my full and 5 hours of play go right out the window. ( BIG lesson learned here he was the only guy who could hurt me and he did!)
The second time I had TT and laid down to a huge bet cause I figured he had the board plus a higher pocket pair, but he had quads.
Third time during the tourney as above.
Can you see quads coming in a situation like this? What clued you in?
