1/2 1/3

In general if any how do they play differently?

  • besides costing you more for the big blind :) game tends to play deeper given the buy-in is typically 50% more ($300 max vs $200). Personally, if this is a home/club game, rather just play 1/2 with $300 max buy in. $3 BB is a real pain when it comes to breaking chips all the time. $2 chips are just way too confusing.
  • From my very limited experience, I find the $1 $3 plays more like a $2 $5 game.

My only experience with $1 $2 is home games so I can’t really compare it to $2 $5.

Playing at Caesar’s Windsor about 9 times between August and December this year, I’ve usually played $1 $3 with two short stints at $2 $5. I noticed very little difference in pot sizes or betting sizes. Most times I’ve been there they only have the $1 $3 running, but I’m usually there on Sundays and Mondays.

Again, my experience is very limited and your results may vary.
  • Just a sidebar, but giving someone 2 racks of 1s for a $200.00 buy-in is kind of stupid.
  • I asked because in my upcoming trip to vegas in January I plan to play these. The last time I was in Vegas I found a .50/1 cash game at Wild Bills and played it,. This time I will be either 1/2 or 1/3. thanks for the replies.
  • Perhaps at the $.50/$1. game at Bills you will see lots of white $1. chips but at any $1/$2 or above game in Vegas, AC or Niagara, etc the predominate chip will be the red $5. After a table is open for a couple of hours there will likely be more green $25's than whites. Dealers do not like seeing someone come to a table with a rack of whites... That has been my typical experience..

typical opening raises at 1/2 will be $7. with small pairs, suited connectors, etc and $12. - $17. with big pairs, AK, etc.. I only raise with AA suited.. ;)
  • Newbs come to the tables in NF with $1 white chips - go after these people!
  • $10-15 seems standard raise in both 1/2 and 1/3. Tbh I don't see much difference in play except bigger buyin.
  • it's one louder

Have you played $2/$5? In general, $1/$3 plays much closer to $1/$2 than $2/$5. And it's almost completely driven by stack size, so I will give you that a $1/$3 on a Saturday night may play closer to a Monday morning $2/$5, depending on the tables, but a Saturday night $2/$5 game plays nothing like a $1/$3.

At $1 $2 with a $200 max buyin, I’ve seen mostly $1 chips in play – two racks of white to buy in. So betting 3x the BB is 6 white chips, or 4x is 8 white chips - betting is precise.

Were you playing in the games room of an old folks home?

I have never seen a casino $1/$2 game play this small, except for the first couple of orbits when a new table opens, or if its all a bunch of geriatrics like comp. :) $11 - $15 minimum opening raise preflop. Late on a Friday or Saturday night it could be as much as $25.

And if you show up with 2 racks of whites the dealer will send you back to get reds.

I highly recommend $1/$3 at the ARIA, great game.

And check out TI as well, I found their $1/$3 game very soft last Jan, especially if theyre running a promo.
  • just back from Vegas, and played a lot of 1/3. Mostly at Aria. I never had a losing session. 12 hours total
