Weed Legal in Colorado, Washington; Poker Still Not So Much
While poker players across the US remain painfully in limbo over the future of online poker, another popular pasttime with similarly ardent fans has crossed into the promised land.
Both Colorado and Washington passed initiatives in the Nov. 6 election to decriminalize marijuana possession, making for the interesting juxtaposition of currently being able to get high 24/7 in Seattle or Denver but not be able to play cards for money online once baked.
Probably for the best, for some, but still an odd, Freaky Friday-esque scenario in the US and A.
Marijuana possession is still a federal crime but as of December 6th (in Washington anyway) it's not a violation of state law to possess up to an ounce (or 16 ounces of "marijuana-infused product") for personal use.
The cops say they'll look the other way on the federal statute. The Washington initiative also set out a one-year time frame to launch a licensing system for marijuana production and sale.
If only poker could be so lucky.
