why get a poker coach for WSOP FT?
i just read about yet another player to make the wsop final table who has decided to not get a coach. i just can't understand why someone (who has already been given 9th place money of $800,000-ish) would think that not getting a coach is a good idea. i mean we're talking about millions of friggin' dollars here ($8 million+ to first). are they really that self confident that they don't think they'd benefit from coaching?
even just to get a different perspective or to get help on analyzing your opponents i think it'd be worth it. i'm assuming it can't be a money thing as a coach is probably not costing you even $1000 i'd think, so it must be an arrogance thing i guess.
i don't care who you are. if i made it there, i'd probably quit my job and study with my coach (or my team of coaches) for weeks. any little advantage i could get would be great in my opinion. $800,000 is nice, don't get me wrong, but $8 million is something completely different.

okay, if that was the case i'd turn it down and find a coach that would accept a one time fee.
the $1000 was referring to one session of coaching, not weeks.
If I made it to that point, I would indeed at least 'think' I had the skills to take it out and wouldn't want someone messing with my mojo. Not sure I'd be too willing to let someone willing to only take $1,000 bucks messing with my game either. Now obviously if some poker player with some serious win history and skills were to want to coach it would be a whole other matter.
Obviuosly I don't mean $1000 is cheap, but the person would know you were involved in the WSOP so...
Me? I'd read Kill Phil, and keep shoving until someone hands me a cheque . . .
and i did just kind of throw out the $1000 as a random. even $10k would seem like a good investment imo. i should have considered though that most poker players do have huge egos
lol. well honestly i'm fine with the majority of people thinking they don't need any help. just gives me an advantage (if i every make it there of course).
also, there were a few comments about how a coach might mess you up or change your game. i'm not suggesting you get a coach to change your game at all, just sharpen it. you should be looking to get a coach that plays a similar style to you, not someone who's going to tell you you do everything wrong.
Really curious to know what kind of fee they want.
