  • i miss the first one :(
i'm gonna go in the next one for sure tho ^^
  • Dick Hertz Finished 14th, nice showing. Wow 800 people, I think they should add an extra team for Canada.
  • Nine hour tournament. WTF were they thinking!
  • I can only assume that either they didn't care...or never thought that that many Canadians would sign up.

With the states being split 52 ways the field was small avg < 100.
Some countries had 14 guys in TOTAL. So, I would think they'd have been over a he** of a lot quicker.

Should lobby PS before the next qualifier to split Canada by Time Zones or Provinces to make things more reasonable.

Congrats to Dick Hertz on 14th.

Thank god for Tim Horton's...X-Large this a.m.
  • Congrats to all of you that made it so far! You should play in our heads-up game!

    Cheers
    Magi

P.S. I blew out in the first round! 78-20
  • Maybe everyone that cares here can send them an email, and tell them how short sighted they were.

    Rob.
  • Congrats to DH and everyone else who is sick enough to stay up all night and make deep into the tourney. I made a strong first round exit myself...but at least I went bust with the best hand...oh wait no I didn't.

Chris Jenson, TiMSuM, and Dick 'the animal' Hertz are left, by my count. GL to all. Any others?

Excellent. Add wolf 'the killer' hound to the list. (I'm arbitrarily assigning nicknames here for the purposes of drama... hope nobody minds.)

I liked mine the best: Chris "Jenson" Jensen :D
  • I sent in the following email:

Hi, I am a player on PokerStars and was wondering why Canada was only
limited to 1 team? The US has 4 teams and they had approximately 1200 entries
across all State tournaments combined. Great Britain has 3 teams and they had
171 Entries. Canada has 1 Team and had 842 entries in the first of two qualifiers.
It just doesn't make sense that we have two thirds of the participation of the US
Qualifiers with only 1 of 2 qualifiers completed, yet we only get one fourth of the
    Teams.

    Thanks

  • Chris "Jenson" Jensen
Don't think for a second that it wasn't deliberate...

Nice email Ventrick. That tournament had some serious structural issues.
  • Got the following response:

Thank you for your interest in the WCP! It has been a success so far, and
we hope that we can continue on with a big finish.

I can understand why you may feel like Canada is under-represented in this
event, but believe me, we are not trying to sell Canada short. A number
    of our managers are Canadian.

We wanted to create an event that could truly be called a "World Cup,"
with representatives from all around the world. This meant allowing teams
to countries that do not have as much representation on our site.

Canada represents a little more than 10% of our players. The US
represents a little more than 80% of our players. This means that the
rest of the world makes up less than 10% of our total players. There is
no fair way of creating 32 teams from countries of equal size.

Still, your point is valid. We will consider your request for the WCP
2006! Maybe a Western Canada Team and Eastern Canada Team?

  • Well, you gotta hand it to them. Stars has good support. At least they give you reasons... whether or not you agree with them may be another matter.

I had the exact same reply as well ... and, it was from Sharon. :)

I replied back, thanked her, but suggested the break up Thursday's qualifying into smaller groups, so that it didn't go as long ... no reply yet.

  • Heh so we all got a form letter:P
  • Anyone going to try this again tonight?

After playing all night on monday I didnt think I would even bother on Thur.
BUT.....I think I feel like some headsup action again.
    Anyone else?
  • I'm asking for pain, but I'll probably give it a go. Getting some good heads up experience was a good thing.
  • I'll be in there again tonight. If I can convert a 5-1 chip advantage in the first round this time I might make some noise.

    Mike
  • I finished at 1:40 a.m. on Monday night...still beat...but, it was good practice.

Maybe i'll get lucky tonight and draw Dick Hertz in the first round...then i'd only
miss a few minutes of Survivor and be in bed by 9:00.

    Good luck everyone.
  • I finished 90th the other night around 12:30 am. I'll be back tonight.

Look out - been on a roll!! :spade:  :diamond: :club:
Yesterday, finished 4/391 in a UB $5+.50 tourney (paid $142 USD) then won a UB $5+.50 sng(paid $25 USD)  doubled my meagre bankroll :tongue::smile:

    Hey, doesn't $167USD = $1000 CDN !?! :confused::confused: (no wonder I cant figure out pot odds)

    Good luck all tonight.
  • And so it begins..... again.

Into Round Two after getting past a player that would only play if he had a hand. It cost me down to 500 of my original 1,500 to discover this fact, but after that it wasn't too bad.

    On to round 2!!!
  • I'm given it a shot this week...hopefully get in 2 rounds before bar time! How long between rounds? I'm getting impatient.
  • Good god, round 1 is held up since 2 players are both sitting out trading their blinds. Could be a long night...
  • One player ended up coming back and quicky one.... thank god.

Round Two is ten minutes old and I'm off to Round 3! Tougher opponent this time who had a nice agressive streak to him. I played tight weak for the first few minutes, then played some nice bluffs off him which he respected, because I had been playing so passive. 44 V AK(me), and a King comes to move me on to the next round.

Stil in, but not yet on to round three are...

    Dick Hertz
    SirWatts
    KRT
    Gide
    Soup66
    Wolffhound
  • KRT1
    myself and
Soup66 went out within 4 spots of each other in round 2.

I got in a raising war...my AJo against KQs, all-in pre-flop, he got his Q....

5 hands later it was over.

Much shorter night, but, i would have rather done without the sleep.

Good luck to Zithal, Dick Hertz, Gide and all the others that might still be going.

    D
  • Waiting for round 3 also.
  • Congrats, Punky!
  • I'm dead in round 3...
nice experience... but way to long to complete to the end...

    Gide
  • Also dead in round 3. It was a frustrating loss to someone who wasn't good at at. Extremely weak tight and EASY to bluff off pots. Me either raising or folding if I played a hand had the effect of him not calling his SB, so I got lots of free chips that way.

The match started and we poked around at each other for awhile and I gradually built my stack up to 8,000 to his 4,000. Got him all-in, QQ(me) v 99, pre-flop and a 9 came. Argh.

Was down to 4,000 and built back up to even and pulled ahead a bit. I completely ignored the fact that he only bets when he has the goods and walked into his two pair, knocking me down to 2,000. I bullied his 10,000 chip stack around some more and couldn't break past 4,000 chips. Finally got him in another good position, me with 3,600 chips left QQ(me) v K9, all-in pre-flop. Flop comes KKx and I'm out of the tourney.

Twas sad too, I felt really in the zone in the games I played and could have gotten fairly deep.

Oh well. It was fun and it looks like all our hopes fall on SirWatts and Punky! gl, guys!!
  • Still alive throu round 3
See how round 4 holds out
