moral dilemma or jackpot?

Las Vegas Cabdriver Returns Lost $221K, Gets Tipped Less Than 1 Percent

okay, am i the type of person who would return $200K+ that i found? idk for sure but i'm leaning towards hell no - i'm rich biatch! honestly though i'd have to be in the situation.

that being said, are you the type of person to return $200K+ that you found and then bitch that the guy you returned it to only gave you $2000 as a reward? i mean, are you really just returning the money to get a reward? a reward of an amount you deem appropriate?

btw, the cabbie only makes $350 a week so $2000 isn't too bad i'd think.

Comments

  • if you have poker skillz you wouldn't have to worry about a measly 221k

    fk you trigs
  • "Friends of the driver reportedly were disgruntled about the tip not being larger. Woldermarim himself seemed ambivalent about the size."

According to the article the cabby wasn't bitching

If I returned someone's money I wouldn't expect any reward but would accept whatever was given to me if the sum was 221k.

oops. guess i missed that. most of the comments by readers complained about the amount of the reward too.

unless the author used the word 'ambivalent' for its actual meaning and not the one that most people think it means. sorry, there i go again blah blah blah.
  • If I were to return said monies, it would not be because I was "expecting" a reward. If I were to receive one, then it's found money, imo.
  • Did not read the article, but anyone who is carrying around 220k in cash probably isn't hurt for money.

If it was a smaller amount like a grand or two...something small that seems like it would be someones rent money I am returning it in a heartbeat.

That said I am probably returning anything because the guy could be part of the mafia or something.

aha! morality on account of fear. one of my favourites.
  • What morality?

More like risk/reward in the scenario Macke envisions.

Macke . . . keeping $200+k is alright, but $1-2k is bad? That is a very Stalinist comment to make.

Me? Don't know . . . with no ID in that bag, I probably keep the money. I might hold onto it for a while to see if anything pops up on the news or some such, but I would probably not look too hard.

    For large amounts, yes...

note: this is not a barg...
  • I lol when I think of the Salvation Army guy who stole the 25k chip that the biker bandit guy dropped into the bucket after the Bellagio heist. He got picked up when he tried to cash it in. Arrested for stealing a stolen 25k chip. lol.
  • I don't know what I'd do in that situation...I would probably give the money back unless the owner was a douchy american

You found something that wasn't yours and ppl complain that you weren't rewarded for doing what essentially you should do. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to get a reward, but all those comments that are saying the tip isn't enough are fuckwads.

Everyone's moral until they could lose something.

    Or "cost" them . . .
  • I guess I'm the only prick here then...I wouldn't have returned it at all.
  • Never said I would, either . . . "if" is a mighty big word.
  • id snap keep the cash and spin it on black juan time

keep my 220K, give back other half

or it hits red some how, then i am oi
  • I think Ive told this story on here before.

When I was about 10 years old I found roughly 10k cash stashed behind a convenience store in a small town in SW Ontario.

After about 5 minutes I snap returned it to the store (Are the "Beckers" franchise of stores still around?).

I got nothing, not even a thank you from the prick store owner.

I did however, get called to court to testify against the guy who stole the cash from the gas bar (geniuses, FTW).

I'll never return found cash - ever again.
  • wow Wetts that's insane lol, I've fantasized about finding cash somewhere like that, can't believe that actually happened to you. Have no idea what I would do as a ten-year old though...

Is she related to Judy Rottencrotch from Norwood Ont.? :D
  • to be honest I'd probably take the money if I thought it couldn't be traced back to me, don't think I'd have it in me to give it back to someone I don't know or will never meet again
  • Is she related to Judy Rottencrotch from Norwood Ont.? :D

Cousins . . . dating their Uncle, last I heard.
  • I'd guess since he was a cab driver....he probably 'found' the money by it being left in his cab...so it would have been traced back to him anyway. If it wasn't traceable at all I doubt many would give it back. If it was completely in the middle of nowhere I'd hold it for a few weeks...watch the news and make sure it wasn't money stolen from a poor orphanage or some charity and if nothing is made of it keep it. If it's dirty money or lost due to someone being a moron...odds are it's better in my hands anyway :D

    You're not thinking.

Once it went public that the money was gone, the press would ensure sufficient coverage to TRIPLE the original amount missing. Everyone wins!!

    C'mon Ned...THINK LIKE A PLAYA! :D

Pay attention . . . it was $600k . . . but a cabbie returned $200k that was left in his cab. Then, the cheap-ass orphans only gave him a chintzy 1k tip.

    Fucking orphans . . .
