Live cash game action ?

Hello everybody :) !

If anyone here is kind enough to help me with some tips a little it would be awesome. I am currently living in Las Vegas playing 2/5 for a living. But me and my wife are looking for something new for a while. Then i got an idea to move to Canada. Ive heard enough different stories but this place might be the best to get some inside tips if they are real.
So which cities would u recommend for me to live and plat 2/5+ for a living. Somewhere with enough action maybe even 24/7 like in Vegas ? No need for a car and possible to rent apartment from reasonable distance from the casino.

Thank you so much and i hope if i finally move to Canada i will become a good user of this forum.

Good luck

That will be your problem..... Nowhere in Canada would have 2/5 24/7 afaik... Best bet for 2/5 on a semi regular basis would likely be Niagara Fallsview, Calgary and perhaps Vancouver... You will find rents Waaaaay higher than in Vegas.. Not sustainable to make a living playing only live poker in Canada imo..

If you can't make it in Vegas with all the tourists, you have no chance in Canada. You do realize we have immigration laws and the like don't you?
  • i'd imagine your best bet is in aberta or b.c. as there are many more card rooms open there (since it's illegal in ontario). however, like comp said, it's probably a lot easier in vegas than anywhere in canada.
  • I would think Vancouver or Calgary would be your best bet. I would lean towards Vancouver due to weather (nasty weather in Calgary) and more things to do. Impressive if you can earn a decent living at 2/5.

He didn't say "decent" living...... I suspect the wife is the real breadwinner..;)
  • Lol :D,

i know the laws and stuff as im originally from Scandinavia its visa free for 6months so just perfect. I just like to travel and live in different places and only playing poker. Besides Canada has online poker also which i miss so much so obviously i wond play live poker only. If 8-12k$ from 2/5+ every month is not decent then i envy u canadians for making more :).

But seeing ur guys reaction Canada doesnt really seem to be the place for live/online poker players. Dam it, the plan seemed really cool tho :D. Thank you guys for the answers tho i look into them and get some apartment prices etc to compare with other targets i have.

Probably still Vegas is the best choice.... so boring tho would like some other place in the world already. Maybe u know something better besides Vegas and Canada ? LA, Spain ? Somewhere in Asia ? Im ready to go anywhere :D

    Thank you ! :)
  • Graphs ?

    Woohoo, in before GTA.
  • I guess u guys have not played 2/5 and higher here for a living ? Sometimes 10/20 runs pretty good also. Or its just awesome to question the new guy ? :D
  • easy, best action is Macau, hands down. Why not go to LA as apparently the action is a lot better than Vegas? Not sure how you manage to make $8k a month at 2/5. What are your best and worse months?

Problem you will find with most casinos here in Canada is there are a lot more regulars playing on a daily basis, as there are less casino choices than Vegas. Might be harded to grind with regulars than tourists.

Don't think there are any 2/5 cash game players that play for a living on this forum? If it was that easy, we would have quit our day jobs lol :)
  • Sight there is a + after 2/5 obviously u cant make that money only in 2/5 but the lowest i play is 2/5, it all depends on the games. Even play 10/20 couple of times per month.

I guess US is still better yea. Living in Vegas and sometimes going to LA(which was pretty bad imo i hated the city, but the games were awesome tho :D). So start from November 3months US life again then 3 months in different europe countries and then back for the series i guess. If nothing new comes up, after that i might try Macau finally. I just love life as a poker player. Awesome :)
  • Again... Graphs? Of course if you are a successful cash game player you do track your results right?

There are plenty of successful players on here (I am not one of them) who I would think could make a living at it if they so chose. That would necessitate relocating somewhere they could play often enough. As we have said before Vegas is the only place (except for perhaps LA) where one can play 24/7 in North America. Lots of undergrounds here but you need an "in" and none go anywhere near 24/7.
A very successful cash game player 2/5 and above would consider 5bb per hour pretty good so I think your 10-12 per hr is quite unrealistic long term. As long as you don't get too upset I would like to call foul or perhaps you are considering unrealistic short term success as a predictor of the future..

Now perhaps you are the 2nd coming of Ivey (not "our" Ivey) but I'll bet against it... Good luck in your travels...;)
  • if u need to play 2/5 head west , vancouver to be specific

ive never seen a card room run more cash games than edgewater casino

1/2 , 2/5 NL, 1/2 PLO, 5/5PLO 4/8 limit with kill, 10/20 o8 all run regularly... and every couple nights bigger mixed games are played as well 10/20+

You really think he came here to be a regular contributor? Newbie's who come here without bragging and asking for real advice and wanting to participate we don't chase away.. At least I will try to protect their right to do that..
Obvious phonies, scammers, spammers and the like.. well not much tolerance for them... Should we have more?

OP, not saying you are one of the above but please join in, offer advice, participate and perhaps you could belong...

Where in Vegas do you regularily play?

My favs are mgm/aria/venetian/mirage. Not a short term result also lol. Not a fish and a newb by a long shot. Ive been playing pro for 5years, which last about 1,5yrs mostly as a live pro. If i move to Canada then obviously i will become full time member here :).
And yes i track results hours per month/average hourly etc. But they are secret and i recomennd to you to do the same as me i have it all in my Google Docs file so i can edit it worldwide and it calculates all for me. (Obv apps for iphones but i hate them lol)
