2005 WSOP

This thread is started to keep track of our progress in sending players to the WSOP. This initial thread will keep track of all the different ways you can qualify (online or otherwise). If you find something that I don't have listed here, please email me the details and I'll include it.

Beneath that, feel free to add your own personal thread, stating how much your budgeting for qualifiers along with how you're doing so far.

  • INTRO:

Zithal's been playing poker for a whole year! Being that I still needs a lot more tournament experience, I'm keeping my WSOP budget to a simple $100. If I can get in on that, great! If not, WSOP 2006 is only a year away.

    BUDGET:

    $0 of $100 spent

    DETAILS:

    No events entered yet.
  • I am going to try to qualify online. Failing that, I plan to fly to Vegas a few days before the start of the Main Event. The plan would be to play in the $1000 rebuy NL event. If I win, well, I won't need to worry about qualifiers... ;-)

Then I'm going to play super satellites. Failing that, I'll play a single-table 1K buy-in satellite. If, after all that, I'm still not in the Main Event, I'll sit out and play in one or two of the $1500 NL freezeouts that now run during the Main Event. Then, I'll come home, hopefully as the WSOP World Champion.

That's the plan for now... loose thoughts, no real steps taken yet, but that's how I think I'll approach it.
  • I plan on trying qualifying events online and locally (if they arise). No serious budget set. Hoping to pull a Magithighs and qualify through PokerStars.
  • I'm going to attempt the plan i tried last year without success ... just show up to tables and ask people if they want to stake me, i remind them that the 20% of the first prize 20,000,000 is a great return on their 20,000 (entry fee plus shipping and handling)

but seriously, last year i won one of those $5 re-buy satellites to the $560ish buy-in super satellite. Cashed that out and then devoted about $450 towards multiple different satellites, like the $33 re-buys and the $160 double shootouts. I also think i sold about $100 of the (W$) ... so that my attempt at the WSOP was a freeroll.

I'll try that this year, assuming i can actually finish my existing challenge.
  • For this year I am trying to take any opportunity that arises. I am trying to play all the tournaments in a B&M setting or on line setting I can. Unfortunately, being self employed and with a young family, that does not tend to lean to too much spare time.

My real goal is for the 2006 WSOP. There I plan on spending up to 1/3 of my bankroll (unless I win). My goal since December 2004 has been to make 1 K per month until I get there in 2006. If I win something big in the mean time I will play in 2005.

    My results so far:

    December + 1100.00 - Grinding at 5/10 B&M – 2/4 Online
January + 1500.00 - One B&M Tourney 2nd place – Very little time on line
February + 3800.00 - One B&M Tourney 3rd place, One in the money on line–2/4online

My biggest problem is the time to grind. At present I have only 2-4 hours per week.

If I can keep it up at 1k per month, I should have around 16- 18 K added to my existing bankroll. This means that I will do as AA is. Show up early the WSOP and play some of the supersats and some of the 1K tournaments (and wish from there).

  • is it just wsop? how about other events.. i was going to try a bunch of various qualifiers this month, such as the British Open.
  • if you sign up for pacific poker, you can try to qualify directly for $10

deposit $500, and they give you an instant bonus of $100
you can instantly withdraw $490 and then play thier $100+10 tourny on saturdays

i tried and busted 30th of about 300 people
  • Seriously an instant 100$?? just like that?

hmmm...i would just cash the 400 out and play ring games and build a roll with the other 100, iver never played there before though
  • I think there is a minimum raked hand requirement before you can cash out. I've been playing there for a while though so I'm not sure. It would be ridiculous if there wasn't.
  • prima sites have a ladder type sit and go thing where you can win a WSOP package, 1st level is a $1+.10 buy in i think

They also have traditional super satellites and satellites to WSOP
  • Can you imagine how pretencious the guy who gets into the WSOP for $1.10 will beif he wins ...

he wins and at the end they say sir it's customary to tip a few percent. Man i only gave prima 10 cents to get here, i ain't tippin nothin.
  • I will try to qualify on pokerstars. I dont havnt decided on a budget yet. If I dont qualify online I am hoping to make the trip to vegas and play some sats and maybe a $1500 nl.

yes, a free $100...just like that
the cashout requirements are ridiculous - to be able to cash out the $100, you have to wager $2000 - without playing no limit, it takes a looooong time to clear

thats why i used the bonus to take a shot at wsop
  • I won a seat into Pacifics $100+10 Qualifier this Saturday. Cost me $5.50, not expecting much but any chance is better then none. Apparantly last week with 37 people left Pacifics software crapped out and they split the prize money that was to pay for seats in WSOP between the remaining people, $1100 each. Thats what someone told me today so I'm going by what I heard.

Don't laugh but I've been limiting my Pacific Deposits to $20 at a time. Last $20 I deposited bought me into $170 worth of tournaments and another $375 in my account before I cashed. I deposited another $20 yesterday, won my WSOP qualifier for Saturday and have $75 and growing again.

I play small time, $10NL and $50NL, I don't know it's all about killing time and playing hands for me. I don't like betting what I cannot afford to lose and I find with smaller deposits I play smarter. It's pretty sad I need a small bankroll to keep me check.

But they do let you just take your $490 back out just like that? That's interesting. Pacific tournaments are crapshoots but paying $10 for a $110 crapshoot is still pretty sweet.

I actually cashed out the whole $500 less than 2 minutes after depositing, so yes
i then took the free $100 and made about $50 at $2/4 before seeing that tourny

the tourny itself was tough, but not in regards to competition - the blinds move really fast relative to party or stars and my stack got chipped away at waiting for some decent starting hands - i played it far too tight
  • If you actually won one of those WSOP seats can you trade it for cash? WSOP would be a really wicked experience even busting out day one but 14,000 that could go a long way towards a downpayment on a second house........Bah who am I kidding like I'd ever have to make a decsion like that. hah!
  • I''ll be making my attempt at WSOP at Pacific, Party and Gaming Club. Even though I am in no way shape or form ready for the WSOP I'm still going to try and get there. At least I can donate my chips to Dave S. or something :).

Hope to see someone of you in Veags :)

INTRO: I've been playing online since March '04 and Live since January '05. I keep my games limited to low limit rings and SNG's. I've had decent results in MTT's placing 2nd twice and 4th once. I joined Pacific poker this past week and placed in the money 2 of 2 MTT's I played for a whoping $30 profit :P.

BUDGET: No specific ammount dedicated to WSOP. I keep my online budget at around $250.

    DETAILS:
    Nothing to report yet.
  • INTRO : Been playing off and on for as long as Society. I play live 6-12 limit (or less if available) and havent played higher than 2-4 online, occaisonal online low NL. I am good at SnGs and decent at MTTs when I put my mind to it.

BUDGET: Right now, WSoP is a satellite thing for me. I have no intentions of a direct buy-in in the near future.

DETAILS: Yesterday I finished 1st in my Level 1 'step' tourney at RVP (Prima) and my Level 2 is loading as we speak. This one, then 4 more and I am there :o)
  • WSOP 2007 Here I come! Im just saving up the W$ that I earn through low buyin sats. Those $2+R for PCA were a dream come true. a $2 US investment netted $W150. May use it for WCOOP in the summer if they have it though.
  • I'll formaly make my first attempt at WSOP 2005 at Seneca Casino this coming Thursday March 10th at 10am. They hold several single table satelites with $40 buyin with 1st place winning an entry into a WSOP satelite tourny March 17th where the winner gets an all expense paid trip to WSOP. There is 2 satelites left, Mar 17th and April 21.
Single table sats are played only on Thursdays, Registration starts at 9am and tournys begin at 10 am. more info can be found at their site. http://www.senecaniagaracasino.com/snc/pokerRoomTournaments.html

Hope to see some of you there. $40 and a dream :D

  • This Saturday Pokerstars will be starting there satellites for the WSOP with a 2pm $150+10 double shoot-out and a 3pm $33 re-buy event. along with 2 more double-shootouts and another direct qualifer later in the day.

So for those of you who absolutely must lock up your seat right away, there they are.

Not sure if the first tournaments would have harder or easier competition than usual
  • Try those $2+R tourneys. Build up a W$ roll if your a cheapy like me. The $2+R are fairly simple to beat. I probably place 1 in 3 or 4. Cashout the entry and try again. I know one person does this for the main qualifier. Plays the 25+2 to 650. Cahses out and once he has 3-4 Main Satelites entries, he plays em. He won a WPT Seat to PCA this way.
  • Any updates on this? I believe Magi won a seat. Anyone else so far?
