Comments

  • Gives me chills when I see that clip of him stepping on the Moon and saying 'That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind'

    Amazing quote.

    RIP Neil.
  • Godspeed Neil Armstrong.
  • Wow..

I can't even begin to imagine words to express how incredible it must have been to be him..

The first man to take a stroll not on earth? Amazing. History's most accomplished explorer.

  • Truly one of my first childhood heros. Still remember that day like it was yesterday. The entire school stopped and met in the lunchroom to watch as he stepped out and onto a totally new and celestial piece of real estate. The entire world stopped to watch it. Too bad most were watching on black & white sets though, not that it made much difference.

RIP Neil. Your journey through this world is complete. On to brighter ones!

To be pedantic, Armstrong stepped on the moon at just before 10pm Eastern time on July 20. Unless you were living in another part of the world (which may indeed be the case) you wouldn't have seen this live at lunchtime.

    Apollo 11 Timeline

(Note times are GMT so you have to subtract 5 hours)
  • Plus it was in July and he was only 5 so he went to a really weird remedial school for stupid kids who failed nap time in pre-school.
Methinks he recalls Game 8 of the Summit series, which did take place during school hours, and 3 years later, after repeating grade 1, they could have kicked him upstairs into grade 2. Course in b&w, the ice, could have looked like the moon. Henderson in his white jersey and hockey equipment, could have looked like an astronaut. Old guys have crappy memories.

This old guy still remembers where the ban button is... Should I AJ? Should I? :)

damn... what was I looking for?
  • Odd...I remember watching SOMEONE stepping onto the moon from the school lunchroom. Maybe it wasn't Neil...sorry all...memory failing...error code 404

Jeff...its the big run one on the right
  • Did you watch a taped recording of the landing?

Doubt it. School would NOT have shut down for a recording. Also remember watching the 74 Russian series too...unless that was just a dream as well.

I might have to see a specialist. My mind is wondering...

God I could go for icecream right now
  • Guess that makes Buzz 2nd to Neil again.

    Too soon?

Wasn't the Summit Series in '72?

There was a Summit Series in '74 as well we just don't seem to talk much about it.

    Spoiler: Canada got smoked.
  • Gg Neil

I remember being infatuated with him when I was a little gaffer

I wanted to be a spaceman growing up lol

True inspiration to millions of children and adults alike
  • In Grade Four we were asked what we wanted to be when we grew up . . . I said Playboy photographer.
  • Fun fact of the day. Neil Armstrong was buried today. Tonight there is something known as a "blue" moon, namely a second full moon in a given month. The next "blue" moon is not until the summer of 2015. It seems even the heavens are showing a little respect to a space pioneer.

Third star to the right, Neil, and straight on until morning . . .

I was just about to post that. Love it when stuff like that happens.
