  • Giving up 25% equity is a bit much don't you think?
  • Think of it like winning in the USA where they take 30% and don’t even say thanks. Sharing 25% with a bunch of other fellow players who think your great can be very rewarding. Giving up 15% or 25% is a problem I’d like to have.
  • Most players can get all or some of the 30% back from any US Tax Withholdings.
  • Not having the problem, I can’t be sure of the details but don’t you have to show the equivalent in loses to get the 30% back.
  • Like I said most players can get SOME or ALL the withholding back, it all depends on how much you end up getting withheld.

Pay 90% of my entry and I will give you 25% equity everytime.

First you have to win the satelite. GL with that.

Ive played the tournaments you run, organizied and well run. So why not change it to 15% like other meet ups?

Thanks DM I appreciate your support.

My feeling is that 15% shared over a multi-table satellite is not enough, I personally like 25% but would like to hear other opinions.
  • What I have seen, 15% is typically the standard. Most players (on this forum anyways) look at it as an additional form of rake.

Steve, if most players get back "all or some" of their 30% withholding tax, why is it deducted from the BAP payouts over $5k? I have raised this before in other threads. I would rather share a 25% equity than get robbed on my share of the 30% withholding recovered. If a player recovers some of the withholding on their tournament cash, and this is a BAP tournament, why shouldn't they have to pay out an equity percentage on this recovered amount??

This is equity not a BAP

you have to show gambling loses to get withholding back. So for the equity tournament it is 30% of the $1,500 buy in, which is $450 minus any fees (usually 10% of what you get back to the company that applies for the withholding for you) and ITIN cost ($100 I think) so $450 - $45 - $100 = $305 divided by the other players in equity satellite (25 players) so that's $12.20 per player. So you are worried about an extra $12.20? (players in the equity shouldn't have a problem with player keeping the $12.20 per player as player is not always receiving money for travel.

In other words if player gets taxed $1560, you have to show $5200 in gambling loses to get it all back - If player has more gambling loses then the $1500, player shouldn't have to put that into the equity

You have to remember that the equity satellites to the USA are usually for BIG events where the prize pools are in the millions.

When I first started running satellites, it was 20% equity and the biggest complaint I got was it was too much, so I changed it to 15% and players were happy

Exactly this - and is likely the reason I probably wont come out (although the structures of your satellites are deep and solid).

The "rake" is just too high.

Long term, over a significant sample size a good player will always payout to the field more than he receives back, because weaker players are less likely to:

    a) Win the satellite
    b) Cash in the target event.

From that perspective - equity satellites benefit weaker players long term.

I dont know if you're serious with this post but the logic in it is significantly flawed.

Unless you're a bad player, see post above.

Think of it this way. You can have your quote above.

I would rather that you pay 90% of my entry and I give you nothing.

I was ready to book in that date until I saw that 25% No chance i'm giving up that equity.

  • 0 equity ftw, good idea with the poll
  • thanks for doing the poll and getting player's input. I will try to make a couple, once the cottage country traffic dies down :)
  • Regardless of what the equity ends up being, I’m thinking that that the winner should be able to keep what they have already won, so the share in this case should only be over and above the first $1,000 or that of the entry amount. What are your thoughts on this?

I dont really like the wording of the 0 equity option.

Im not saying take the cash and run - as the option is worded. It should still be a "forced" play satellite, just without the equity.

Yeah equity should be on profits, agreed

Not sure I understand the point of forced play with no equity.
