And I believe You will have plenty of upcoming opportunities to do so ;)
  • Wow, since all the government-run casinos did not want the WPT to ever return to Canada, WPT finally decided to have an unholy alliance with an illegal poker club!? I'm paranoid that the day I finally play in an illegal Indian casino will be the day that the federal and Quebec governments will order a full-scale assault by the RCMP and Armed Forces on evil Kahnawake! >:D

I hate the re-entry format - the full rake is charged to the player each time. The pros like Antonio Esfandiari, Phil Laak and Erik Cajelais can easily afford re-entries through sponsorship/backing, while recreational players and satellite winners can only afford one bullet.

I hope the obscene rake in the cash games will be lowered during the WPT:
    $1/$2 NLHE : 10% max rake $8
    $2/$5 NLHE and above : 5% max rake $14

    $1/$2 PLO: 10% max rake $10
$2/$5 PLO and above: 5% max rake $14
    :rage:

Kahnawake is self governed, policed etc, and the national tv ads, bill boards all over Montreal etc, are a far cry from "illegal" underground club. You do relize like 300 of the casinos in USA are basically in the same boat right? Foxwoods, Mohegan Sun, two of the largest in North America...are there any state run casinos in those regions?

As far as cash games go, not part of OP, I think we have beaten this topic to death.

The major point of post is we finally have a national, world class recognized brand making a stop in Canada, with the resources to provide multiple avenues to qualify (another advantage of being on Kahnawake and you just happen to be Paldium so you can prob get in these easy just with vip perks or points sats) and above all, keep the commitments they make to our players.

No withholding huge bonus, POY elegilble big draw for players that might pass on other canadian events.

re-entry, wasn't biggest fan originally, but juice aside its good for prize-pools. If you can afford one bullet and have a shot, you can afford two, it's just whether or not you want to.

If it's that significant you prob shouldnt play, basic bankroll management, this is basic stuff you already know. hell, you wrote the book before must of us learned to read....
  • i still hate the re entry BS , rake+ prizepool size and all

i hope to goddddddddd party runs satellites for this

*cough* blondefish u could look into that maybe for us? *cough* :)

You beat me to this plus you worded it so much better. Now all we need is a Habs game around that time and I can see a bunch of CPFers there that week/weekend

I'm like 95% that I will be am making the trip on reporting end. Booking the dates off from work as soon as I return from LV.

Airfare same as going to LV for me, plus will most likely do live updates with CP, (my version of the poker grind)
  • Wow - psyched about all of this. The PartyPoker tie-in is great. The fact that it's a real WPT not a regional stop is great. I'm also curious about side events - I've already heard rumours that at least one of the other rooms in the area will be formally cooperating in some way which could make for some sick side events to attract an even better crew of players to travel to Montreal.

Something like this should also do wonders in terms of building infrastructure. I don't think the WPT would commit to this if Playground didn't themselves commit to making sure everything was smooth for touring players - i.e., transportation to/from downtown hotels etc. Some of this infrastructure may end up benefitting Montreal-area poker in other ways as well.
  • WPT® Back in Canada and Scheduled to Land at Playground Poker Club
After a multi-year absence from the Canadian market, the World Poker Tour® (WPT®) is returning to Canada with an official Main Event tour stop scheduled for November 2012 at Playground Poker Club just outside of Montreal, Quebec.*
The growing popularity of the Playground Poker Classic has created serious demand from the poker playing community for Playground to offer not one, but two, annual tournament series. And Playground has, once again, stepped up to fulfill those player demands through a partnership with the WPT.
WPT Montreal is slated in for November 23rd – 26th and will be the Main Event of Playground’s newest two-week tournament series, The Playground Poker Fall Classic.*
"The opportunity to welcome the World Poker Tour to Playground wasn't something we could pass up," said Playground COO David Montour.*
WPT Montreal at Playground Poker Club sponsored by PartyPoker.net will be the only official tour stop for the World Poker Tour in Canada in 2012. With a $3,000 + $300 Main Event buy-in with re-entry, there will be plenty of poker action on the felt.
"We've had some of the biggest names in the poker world walk through our doors, and the WPT gives us an opportunity to add to that list." Montour continued.*
Because this is a World Poker Tour Main Event, WPT Player of the Year points will be up for grabs along with bragging rights to the winner as Canada’s WPT Champion. WPT talent will be on hand during play down, and VIPs and lucky audience members will get to sit alongside the popular Royal Flush Girls while they watch the players at the final table compete for the first-place prize money and to have their names etched onto the prestigious WPT Champion’s Cup and Champion’s Trophy. In addition to claiming the coveted WPT title, the tournament champion will also receive a commemorative gold bracelet and a one-of-a-kind championship belt, courtesy of Playground Poker Club.*
Poker players can reserve a seat through Montreal Poker | Playground Poker Club :: Home and buy in to the tournament directly, or qualify through satellites being offered by Playground Poker Club or online at PartyPoker.net. For more information on the WPT Montreal at Playground Poker Club, visit Montreal Poker | Playground Poker Club :: Home or contact info@PlaygroundPoker.ca.

At home Saturday the 24th against the Canucks and Tuesday the 27th (for the final tablers) against the Lightning. ;)
  • Hey guys,

Sorry it took me so long to get into this thread, thanks @jontm for starting it :)

As mentioned, Party will be running satellites in early fall, possibly earlier.
Playground will start running weekly satellites in house starting July 15th.

If you guys have any questions from now until the event, feel free to ask.

  • Will playground have enough tables for this?

Is there a partnership with Stardust happening?
  • 20 person $330 Satty in August maybe?
  • Playground has published a list of different ways to get into the WPT Montreal event in November. There's a really good mix IMO - I know that most of the decent tourney regulars at Playground are pretty happy about this. Lots of room for our travelling friends from the rest of Canada to satellite in too!

We will 100% have enough tables.

There is no partnership happening at all.

$330 Mega satellites are planned for later on in the summer.

We've announced a few ways to qualify on our website already. More satellites are planned, as the buy ins/dates are decided they will be announced.

  • There is another way to qualify that was not mentioned in the link.

    On Saturday July 28th we're hosting a $500 + $50 Deepstack event.
The winner of that tournament will also be awarded an entry to the WPT Montreal.

Is this added to the prizepool by Playground or is this coming out of the prizepool?

And I assume you mean July 28?
  • It will be coming out of the prizepool.

And thanks for catching the error! It is indeed July 28th, I just edit the previous post.

I dislike when casinos do this........if you want to run a satellite, run one.....don't run a cash freezeout and take a large chunk of the prizepool for another tourney.

This would obv be diffenent if it was an added bonus of winning.

I understand your frustration, however its not as if we are taking out 5 seats.
    We are awarding 1 seat.
Our $550 tournaments generally attract around 180 players. That equals a prize pool in the $90,000 range. $3300 is anything but a large chunk.

Furthermore, this is detailed on the posters, our monthly calendar as well as the tournament description on the website. Players wont be caught off guard with this. Anyone that buy-in is fully aware.

That being said, you can look at this tournament as a satellite for 1 seat that is also offering a huge cash payout.
  • LOL in theory if you made the top 20 in the June TLB (giving you a free ticket to the $550), you could then WIN the $550, take the seat to the WPT, WIN that, and get an invite to the WPT $25K Championship. Freeroll your way to over a million bucks in prizes.

    That's what I'm shooting for...
