Open Office Function/Macro Help

Does anyone know how to perform the following in Open Office (I assume it would be the same in Word):

1. Input a name once and have it appear in present areas of a document,

2. Insert the sex of a person in one spot and have it adjust all pronouns (he, she, him, her) at preset spots in a document

I'm pretty sure I knew how to do this 10 years ago but have no clue today.

    This is all done thru mail merge options, use have to have a list of the names etc in an excel sheet or from a data base program. Read help about mail merege. I could do it for you if u had a copy of the letter and a copy of what you want to insert.
