DARPA / ARPANET has been the common story. In my travels to customer sites met one older fellow in Burbank, CA around 2006 who claimed to be in the room while the internet was invented He also told me he would never put a cell phone up against his head.

The man who invented the internet was bright. Tim Berners-Lee was a genius.
