  • Curious on peoples thoughts about Awice's comments on the hand history in post 112...I think it shows the touchyness of icm. Cev I wouldn't dream of folding this hand. But this is why I think you can't make up for that much $ev through future edge and metagame.....don't know if that makes sense to people but it will if you normally push k8o here.

cliff notes: 9bbs open fold button K8o, 6 handed FT

  • awice is a boss on this stuff so I'd say he's probably right...
  • i still don't understand how we are getting it in as a 60% fav. and this is -ev.

no its more fun when we can argue it for a bit. nonetheless that post prob had the most dramatic effect on my game since I started. And I would prob fully agree with Rich before you told me Awice is pretty much just right

im only partially correct by saying this but its because we have to beat the value of folding and moving up the ladder through future play.

edit: and its -$ev...which is nit picking but important because its + chip ev but not +$ with money involved
  • the vast majority of the time the best chip EV decision is the best $ ev decision.

that's a pretty bold statement, lol
  • People like to think there are these dramatic differences between tournaments and cash games, but there really aren't. EV is EV. The game is the same, the rules are essentially the same, the odds are the same the decisions are the same. You have to get all the chips to win.

what type of cash games are you playing that getting all the chips is how you win?

that's a pretty simplistic view of tournament poker, there are tons of times when the highest cEV play is still buring heaps of money... it's been proven mathematically tons of times that playing for the win isn't optimal a lot of times in tournaments
