  • So, just curious....

What will you be doing with the extra $6,000 in buy-ins (not even including re-buys)?

    Total prize purse: $18,550
    Total buy-ins collected: 70 x $350 = $24,500

    I'm guessing avoiding the law?
  • 25% is a lot, but is the house taking any of the rebuy money as well to cover expenses, etc...? If not, the percentage goes down. By how much depends on how many rebuys there are, and that depends on whether or not you can only rebuy if you lose all of your chips. If not, there will be many more of them, and if that's all into the prize pool the percentage might fall to a point that makes it more reasonable. Also, are there add-on's, and if so do they all go directly into the prize pool?

From another thread Rob. (This of course does not account for where the re-buys go. I had 13 out of 28 people re-buy in my tournament last night, it can count up fast!)

Hey guy's have a question for your, looking for some advice!

We are organizing a tournament that will seat 70 people. We have agreed that the anti/buy-in is $350, which equals $24,500.

$60 ($4200.00) will cover your meal (pop &water free), chip, table and dealer costs.

$290.00 ($20,300) will go to the pot.

We have come up with several different ways to pay out the top 10, but can't seem to agree.

So I'm coming to you guy's for more idea's, the only thing we have really agreed on is that 10th place must double ($750.00), and that the difference between 1st and 2nd must be a significant difference.

    What do you suggest?
    stp
  • Thanks for clearing that up, stp - I didn't realize that there was such a nice dinner involved.
  • The money from the rebuy's will be added to the pot. The place we are using want's $45.00 (was $60)per person for the meal. It will cost us $1500 approx. for the tables, dealers, chips and floor runners. We don't think that there is any other expence that we have missed, but once the rebuy period is over, we will announce the new payouts. We just don't want to make a promise on the payouts and not get the rebuys we counted on.
  • I've already been taken out to the woodshed once for discussing the topic of rake but since YOU brought it up...

Do people really care about the meal? Or is this something you have to do in order to use the venue? Cause I can't get one heck of a good meal at Mickey Dee's on the way over.

    Good luck with your tourney.
  • the names are just FLYING up on that list of 70.

it's been at 20 for liek 3 days now.

any takers on a bet to see how many names get on the wiating list?
    HA HA HA

    thanks,
    johnny
  • It seems that the entry fee and buy backs are kind of steep for the majority of people that would like to play (which is understandable), and it seems that no one really cares about eating. So we have restructured the tournament as follows, there will be smoking allowed, the restaurant will be open for drinks and food. The rest is as follows:

    NO-LIMIT HOLD ‘EM

Once again please contact Terry: triumphtr6p@hotmail.com
Or myself (rob): rg_spence@hotmail.com or pm me on this site.
  • The location is on Steeles Ave. between Hwy's 27 and 50. The exact location will be on the ticket you receive at the time of your deposit.

    Rob
  • 25% entry fee? Wow....that's a little pricey. You should really go with 10% as that is way more reasonable
  • How's about I up the ante instead....The venue rental, table/chip/dealers cost has to be covered. It seems that somebody always has something to complain about. If you don't like it.....don't enter. I don't want to sound rude, and I'm sorry if I come across that way, but we revamped the whole thing to accomadate people as best we could. This covers all rentals, etc. the rebuys go to the payout. What else would you like? honestly, I don't want to know.
  • That came across pretty angry, sorry!

Anyways, the rentals are around $1500.00. The venue wants $25.00 p/p. ($1750 if full roster), that 25 gets us venue with smoking, food, and drinks. This is a place that I feel comfortable holding an event of this size in, with out any problems.

If you have any other questions or comments, post them or email/ pm me.

    Rob
  • Hey, no offense taken. Please don't take any offense to what follows. I am only offering some advice. I know how hard it is to set up and run a tourney. I just personally feel that a $50 charge is a little on the high end. And please do remember that the costs that you state are only so high because this is your first tourney. Those chips and cards that you will have to purchase are kept by you after the tourney is over. Also, if the hall that you are renting from wants $1500 plus $25/person, you should look into renting somewhere else. I've worked with clubs and halls and it seems that you are being taken. Also, I believe the hall will provide you with chairs, tables and banquet servers; which should all be included in the $1500 fee. Obviously banquet halls provide catering services but you do not need to take up this option. It would be a lot cheaper for you to provide the food on your own. Or even just provide snacks and drinks with a telephone for anyone who wants delivery. People would much rather play poker than have an hour set aside for a four course meal. I hope to attend one of your tournaments in the future and I hope everything goes well for you.
  • Understanable, and maybe we are getting taken on the rentals, that I don't know. $150 package for a table, dealer, chips and afloor walker. The $25 p/ person at the venue we are woking on.
  • spence- you dont need to justify anything. some people just have too much free time on their hands. bottomline is if astroboy wants pizza/pop in a basement then please go. if this site doesnt moderate properly guys like this will bring them down.

    Lithium,

What makes your tournament so much better than "basement" tourneys? team_canada attacked me in the post and I have every right to defend myself. I did nothing more than state an opinion which many people agree with. There is no need to get defensive.

What contributions have you made to this site? What food for thought have you offered? You signed up and joined this forum for the sole purpose of posting your tournament and hoping to get a turnout from this board. That can be seen by checking your posts.

    Astroboy

For the sake of the mods, I'm gonna apologize to Lithium, team_canada, and rgspence. My initial posts were opinions but apparently they were offensive. I had no intention to be offensive and for that I am truly sorry. As to latter posts, I did nothing but defend myself after being attacked and that I will not apologize for.
  • Astroboy,

Your apology is accepted, but not needed. I realize that what you had stated were just opinions, and so were the other posts from other members. It just so happens that before I read the posts, my LOVING wife and I just finished fighting about our 8 year old son. So I was in a bad mood, not to mention other people (not from the forum), who have never organized a game, let alone a tournament, seemed to know everything, where I new nothing. So I apologize for coming across the way I did. After all, I did ask for opinions and comments.

I hope that this new format is suitable and exceptable to everyone, I hope this works out, and I hope to see you at one of these, or at a different one.

    Rob
  • No need to apologize Astro, and no offense taken.

    This:
if this site doesnt moderate properly guys like this will bring them down.
is a truly bizarre comment, for many reasons.

where was it said by us that we were better than a basement tourney. you're the one ignorantly questioning our cheap $15 reg fee.

team canada didnt attack you- you attacked him. again get a life

i read your posts. man you're a contributor. i know you are only 22 but please grow up.

im ashamed ive let myself get dragged into a high school argument.

best of luck. why all aces why? ill never know. maybe i need to be 22 yrs old again to understand why you let that crap go on. sorry for my part though
  • best of luck. why all aces why? ill never know. maybe i need to be 22 yrs old again to understand why you let that crap go on. sorry for my part though
Can somebody please explain to me what is going on, and really more importantly, why my name keeps coming up?

On the subject of disagreements in general... I generally don't intervene in disagreements that are bound to happen in a public forum. I've been involved in a few myself before I was a mod, and I neither wanted or expected a mod to come into the middle of the argument and sort it out. Say what you want to say to each other, and as long as it doesn't degenerate into useless name-calling and the like, I'm happy to let it go. Believe it or not, out of your discussion, some good points have been made about what people want/expect/are willing to pay for in the way of 'private' tournaments.

I'm not going to jump in and delete every line that I find to be caustic. I have neither the desire nor the time.

I'll delete spam, I'll delete someone's post (or ban them) if they start posting things like "shut the **** up you useless m*********er", etc... but I'm not going to carefully edit everyone's posts with the intention of removing anything that someone might take offense to. It's part of--although not nearly all of--what makes a forum interesting--conflict, dissenting voices, differing opinions. Sometimes it gets personal, but that's life, and if you don't want to read it, don't read it.
if this site doesnt moderate properly guys like this will bring them down.
This site is in no danger of being 'brought down' IMO. In fact, it's quite the opposite... I've never seen such a high average level of traffic, with new members being added every day.
  • This thread got very bizarre very fast...

but I'm also amazed that for the first time in pokerforum history, I'm not involved in conflict!

Time to go give myself one of those two thumbs up next time I look in the mirror.
  • I was thinking the same thing, Mr. Z. Congrats.
  • all_aces wrote:

I would really, really, really like to see people have different opinions or helpful criticism without the namecalling. That stuff will kill the forum. For real.
