Wiring Money To Vegas Casinos

Does anyone have any experience with wiring money to The Rio in Vegas?

Not for The WSOP. I just don't want to have to declare a bunch of money at customs when leaving for Vegas.

I have read that you can easily wire transfer money to the casino of your choice but you have to use it for gambling purposes while there?

I basically want to use for gambling, the odd WSOP event and for spending money?

Anyone have any experience with this?

  • i have no personal experience, but i do know of others who have wired money to a vegas casino. they did not have to use the money for gambling as far as i knew. in fact, 'they' consisted of my friend and her wealthy parents. the parents wired i think $10,000 or more to the casino they were staying at just so they could get some 'high roller' treatment. it worked and they didn't spend a dime of that money. just wired it back at the end of the trip. pretty sure they said they've done this more than once as well.

Yeah I know people who do that as well. The other option is getting a line of credit at the casino or a marker for whatever amount you have in your accts at the the time.

If you wanted to get fun you could request a LOC for whatever you had available then wire the money over effectively doubling your available cash. Obv if you blow markers you have to pay it back.

Keep in mind though any wires will be declared at the bank so it is effectively the same as bringing cash over the border (same questions will be asked etc, probably just nicer at the bank)
  • How is the process of declaring at the airport? How long does it normally take because Ill probably have to do it when I go this year.

I asked sirwatts about this at Fallsview. He said you have to go to canadian customs and fill out a form and then you go through us customs and declare there.

Then I am pretty sure you get pulled aside for secondary inspection. Not sure how long this takes.

This is why I just want to wire it to The rio and then do with it what I want. Either gamble, buy food, buy into WSOP events ect.

Just not sure what the rule is on using this money after I wire it

you have to go to Canadian customs first to fill out the form and then on to US costoms. It took me 20 min but there was no line.

Had to go downstairs in a office, near Tim Hortons I think...
  • ok ty. Just kind of wanted to know how early I should go before my flight haha

I would add an extra hour, but I am a bit of an airport nit... A friend of mine did this from Ottawa and when he went to the Cdn Customs office (lower level), there was nobody there and he waited for like 30 minutes just for someone to show up... Then he completed the form and went back to the check-in area to go through US customs.

In case you get delayed by Customs like I did, you want to check in with the airline 3 hours early if being delayed to a later flight is not an option. If there are no problems, then you can spend the extra time using your laptop with free Wifi or read a poker book or eat. I was carrying less than $9K and answered all the custom agent's questions honestly but still got directed to the secondary screening room. Most of the people in that Purgatory room had been waiting for awhile and missed their flights.

You were not allowed to leave the room, but my forumer companion who works for an airline got another employee to check if I was still alive. An agent eventually called me over and I showed my cash. He didn't even count it and let me go. I barely made it to the flight headed for the WSOP ME thanks to the airline employees holding the gate open and I was the last passenger!
  • From what I can see you only have to declare if you are taking more than 10K into the states, was looking into it for my trip next week as well.
  • The customs agent can tell you to go through secondary screening for whatever reason besides carrying $10K+. Maybe the agent thought I fit the profile of a poker terrorist carrying WMD - Weapons of Math Destruction.

On another Vegas trip, my friend easily walked through the metal detector security area, while I was targetted for a very thorough patdown. :-\ Don't forget to declare your $10K+ on the way back too. My luggage was searched after I declared my win from the CPT Poker Championship in the Dominican Republic.

  • funny how everyone is concerned about getting $10k into the US and not vise versa (which should be everyone's problem) :)

I always have trouble bring apples in the US, eventhough they have a big sticker on them that says made in the U S of A.

Meh coming from USA into canada is a 5min process, checkbox >10k in negotiables and they bring you to the secondary search, show them the cash and tell them where you got it, and then you are on your way.

Now if you are talking about the 30% withholding that needs to be brought up with the canadian government...and we all know how that will end up lol

Canada Customs didn't allow me to keep the Jack Link's Beef Jerky from the WSOP, even though it's available in stores. :baffled: I had to throw it in the garbage so it's too bad I couldn't give it to my pet Sasquatch.

A lot cheap from No Frills and as Blondefish would say, this just cuts into my ROI.
