Suggestions for my home game..

OK here is where I stand now after spending a few more bucks on some chips.

once all the shipments that are on their way arrive I will have:
500 Nile club Ceramics (maybe will begrudgingly sell them still) - 100x.25, 100x.50, 150x1.00, 75x5.00, 50x10.00 and 25x25.00
650 Pharaoh clubs - 400 x .25, 150x 1.00 , 75x 5.00 , 25x 25.00 and 10x 100.00
5 pharaoh ceramic NCV plaques

Now... I want to mainly host .25-.50 cent games with buy ins around $40-60. and then also .50-1.00 games with buy in $50-100. But occasionally I would also like to host a 1-2 game.

So my question is what else should I get pharaoh chip wise? and best way to implement the plaques into play.. maybe only use the plaques in .50-1 games and 1-2 games? use them as $100s?
There are also some really sick fake money stacks you can buy here: Poker Stacks Store | Stacks | Poker Stacks - Gambling Money
I would like to get 5-6 stacks of $1x50=$50 stack and get 140 more pharaoh chips of 5 dollar denomination to get it up to the 800 chip mark with focus more on funding the 1-2 game. so have 800 chips in the birdcage but leave the last two tray spots for plaques and money stacks?? (minus the Niles of course that I might sell or keep in separate case) I think that would look sick! and I would have a lot of money denomination coverage in that birdcage for all game. sounds good?? should I get the cash stacks in 50 amount or 100 for the 1-2 cash game???

any thought from the 'pros' on here would be awesome and very welcomed

  • You have way too many .25 and not enough $1 or $5 for any stakes. Absolute max 120 .25 (12 each in a 10 handed game). What I normally would do is give out 8 each and then put another 20 in play with rebuys. No-one will bet 4 quarters when they can use a $1 chip instead.

So for a $60 max game I would normally give out:
    8 .25 = $2
    18 $1 = $18
    8 $5 = $40

Some would even argue that 18 $1s is too many but having lots of $1s, keeps the game loose and the stakes lower because people are less likely to throw out a $5, when they have lots of $1s and can make $3-$4 bets.

So take my #s and multiply by 10 for a ten handed game, round up the .25 and $1s to a full rack for rebuys, then add $5 or $25 as needed for bigger stakes. You would need:

    100 .25
    200 $1
    100-300 $5

add $25s, and $100s as you feel you might need for bigger stakes. Almost never would $25s or $100s get into any of my games. But even without $25s, the above breakdown would give you up to a $1725 bank, which is usually plenty for most small stakes games and you could even let $100 bills play if you run out of chips.
  • And you may want to consider.

Having lots of low value chips helps speed the game up because people don't have to make change as often.

For example at Fallsview in the 5/10NL game. Most of the chips are red $5 chips. People bet stacks of red chips. The game plays mainly with red $5 and black $100 chips. Not so much $25 chips.

    As an aside.
This is another reason why cheap chips suck. You can't make stacks of 20 dice chips easily. So it slows down the game.
  • ya I realized I made a mistake and ordered WAY too many .25's. Im going to exchange them for more 5's I think.

and your saying China clay pharaohs are cheap?!? wtf
  • low face value, not low cost.
