Going West..

I gotta head to Edmonton sometime today...probably later this afternoon after I sleep. Found out late last Monday my dad had a heart attack. He was able to go to the clinic knowing something wasn't right and they flew him from Ft Mac to Edmonton right away. He is alright but there was some major damage and they already put a stint in.

My little brother was able to go out there tues which is good. Its going to be a quick trip since I absolutely need to be back at work Friday @ 4, but thanks to a couple awesome co-workers I was able to get my shifts for the week covered.

I think it is a good idea me and my boy stay in a hotel but I need to be able to pay cash for the room as I don't believe in credit cards. I am unsure if they would allow me to check in with a vanilla visa so if anyone knows more about this let me know if it is a possibility.

Any hotel suggestions would be great as well. Somewhere in the NW area would be best.

Thanks.

I can book you a hotel on my visa and meet you at the hotel if this will help you out. What hospital is he at? I will look-up what is around the area if you need help.

Sorry about your dad, I hope he will be ok.
  • Thanks so much, and this would be a great help.

He is already back home with my brother, and so far things seem to be ok. Sounds like he is feeling better now than he has for a while..

Pm sent as well GTA. Thank you again.

  • Sorry to hear about your Dad Shar, glad to hear he is doing better.

Kudos to GTA for his generosity.

+1 and this is why this is a good community and sure would like to keep it this way..
  • GL, and maybe the force be with you on your travels ^-^
  • Hope your dad is better Shar.

    Nice gesture GTA.
  • Sorry to hear about your dad Shar, but glad to hear he's doing better.
  • Echoing the sentiments above. Travel safe and your Dad will feel better just having you there, even for a short time. Good thing he went to the clinic, sounds like his health has made a turn for the better.
  • All the best to your father, Shar. I'm sure after they put the stint in, he felt MUCH better. Take time with your family.
  • All the best for yourself and your dad
  • Glad to hear he is already better Shar, went through this a few years ago...never any fun.

    Kudos GTA.
  • Keeping you and yours in my prayers, Shar. Hope all continues to go well out there.

    GTA, that was a Mitzvot . . . a righteous act.
  • Thank you everyone and so many thanks to GTA.

Truck was serviced and got some sleep so I will be leaving the house shortly. Should only be about 7 hours or so from the cottage so it will be a late arrival, but my boy can sleep the whole way.

Pm'd GTA with some info and I will try and find some wi-fi in/around Edmonton to check messages before I make any late phone calls :)

Again, thank you everyone for your thoughts and I will be in touch ofcourse.

  • Drive safe, darlin' . . . one in the hospital is enough.
  • Hello everyone!

My whirlwind trip to Edmonton went quite well all things considered. Thank you once again to GTA for going above and beyond for me, and it was a pleasure to meet you. I hope you and your lady enjoy the gifts..a pic of you 2 in the scarves before heading to Cali would be great :)

I was tempted to go out atleast one night, since I know I could find the casino ;) but I was just too exhausted, so instead I settled for some Swiss Chalet (we don't have that in Sask), a hot shower and a long sleep.

Depending on how things go, I may be out there again over Easter or possibly sooner depending on work.

Dad is doing well, but I am not happy that he is going to be home alone most of the time. It looked like the nurses kicked the crap out of him with all the bruises he had all over, but he is feeling better than he has in a long time he says.

They were able to put the stent in through his arm with no complications which is great and I got to see pics of his heart before/after. I think he is going to seriously think about what he is going to do in regards to work etc and I am going to try and convince him to move out here....I don't think it is going to take too much to convince him. He is retired military and could easily retire from his current job. He is still a young man (only 54) and something like this changes what you view as important in your life. I think he would have come back with me this week if he could have. I just hope he makes what ever choice is right for him and I will be more than happy to help in any way I can.

Just thought I would give you guys an update and thank everyone again for your kind words, and no matter what anyone says about GTA, he will always be "Aces" to me :D

  • Wonderful to hear Shar. Life can turn bad in a split second, that's why we have to enjoy what we have, while we have it. Glad to hear Pops is doing better, hopefully he will make some changes that will prolong his life as long as possible so he can spend it with the family that loves him
  • Nice to hear Shar, both about your dad (and GTA). lol..
  • Wait...did someone once say something bad about me on this pokerforum :o
  • Glad to hear things went well for you and your family Shar. Like Mudguts said, don't take the time with your parents for granted. Things can change way to quickly.

GTA is a kind hearted, loving father, hard worker, patriotic family man.... Ah whatever, trying to sell this guy is getting old.
