Explanation needed for best/rarest tourney set plz.
congrats on the purchase.
There is one, maybe two playable sets of these tourney chips in existence. Even samples are extremely rare. I got mine from someone who had managed to collect 17 of them and just getting 3 of them took a fair bit of wheeling, dealing and pleading.
The cash sets are also fairly rare but doable if you want them. Two racks is a good chunk though. What is unique about these is the unusual and beautiful colour combinations used. There is no set like this at any casino. I bought a complete sample set of the cash chips a few years ago after a decent score in an online tourney. But now I have playable chips!!!
It is also reasonably rare to see the words, 'poker room' or 'poker hall' on chips because usually casino chips are more general purpose and used on all table games. The Venetian used to have 'poker room' chips, but don't anymore and there are a few other casinos but not too many.
The chips also have kind of a sad story behind them as seen below. Because the poker room was only open for a short time, the chips are generally in excellent condition.
Heres the history on these from Gene Trimble's post in 2007 on The Chip Board...

I have known Olivia since 1982. She was the poker manager at the old Hacienda about the time I took over the FQ's poker room.
I hired Olivia as a S/M at the Palms when we opened in 2001. She still works there. She also deals the poker cruises for me.
Olivia married former club member Gordon Hall in the late 1990's, while she was poker manager at The Sante Fe. They moved to WA and bought a poker room.
Gordon died soon after the opening. The Olivia's chips were delivered in Sept 2000. Olivia closed the poker room and brought all the chips and equipment back to LV.
Mike Spinetti bought everything. ( except the 2 sets I got) grin She had logoed cards made also, I have a couple of them around here also.
Value chips are
50 - 1,000 made.
$1 - 9,000
$2 - 3,000

Yes we are.
My favourite part of playing at Moose's place is seeing which chips he has pulled out for us to play with.
That's what he says every time he busts me
