pnuts Nov VEGAS TRIP

Second printing.... logged out first time.

Here goes.

Flew out of kingston to toronto direct to Vegas.
First time flyer beside me fm quebec... fun.

Arrived in Vegas to an airport with no power but staff was great and got us on our way.

Shuttled to the Stratosphere as I get a flyer in the mail (yes actual mail) with 2free nites.

Checked in and rested i was playing the 7pm and i get a tap on the sholder fm My buddy Steve. He had been there a week and cashed a 7k win for first. can you say tax form. Great i have some one to chat with at breaks and to scope out tournies.

I like the tournies at Binions on the weekend as they are a $105 buy in deepstack with good play and a 5000 guarantee pot.
My hand of the day was it the AA that knocked me out in 18th place after 7hours of play or the hand where i called the small all in with a short ten second decision... yes my queens are good ... short stack doesnt have a hand he's just shoving... i call.... Bam the nice lady beside me raises all in .... ouch she's solid, I flash my qq to half the table as i fold. She turns over kk and small all in show's j10s flop qq9.
Sunday was simular with same results. Both days were good solid poker days.

Ps wsop was live +15 min on all tv's everywhere ,this was good when playing cash games as it really messed with the way some ppl where watching/playing....

The next couple of days i played cash at Mirage and a satalite at ceasars
Cash was good for me as i sat down at a fresh table and was able to bully a bit sit back and then this nice gentleman, with the armcandy at his side sat down and tried to buy in for a grand.300 max at the one two. I ended up all in with AA to KK ... Arm candy gave me a dirty look it was like it was her money i was taking.

The tournie was a satalite 120 buy to win a 1200 entry for a 250 000 guarantee. Nothing big for me but steve bubbled allin jj and gets called with 83off. eight hi straight takes it down.

Rest of trip was mosly small buy ins at the Stratospher where the play isn't as good as the Binions tournie but there is always a large number there for the 7pm usually 75 to 100+
I cashed here the most but the play can shift alot with the small buy ins.

Split second place 4 way as i thought it was better than taking 3rd or 4th all stacks average large blinds... Wouldn't do i five way. but four was ok.

It was a good trip and i am planning my next one soon.
I plan on checking out the orleans next time i'm there .... suposed to be a good tournie there too

what's everyones' favorite tournie? I think i'm slowly working my way to more cash games.

  • nice trip report
  • No offense intended, but that hurt my brain to read.
I'm glad you enjoyed the trip though.

My favorite place in Vegas as of lately has been the Aria. I usually go over the Bellagio for cash games, but the Aria's rooms are great and nicely priced.
  • Good TR. I've never met anyone that stayed at the Strat -- how was the hotel? Did you go on any of the crazy outdoor rides?

I would recommend trying to stay more central on the strip next time...there are cheap options (Bally's, IP, Flamingo) and you are walking distance to many more poker games and attractions.

I've never heard of anyone wanting to check out the Orleans...how old are you? Some interesting choices for hotels/poker rooms.
  • The Stratosphere eh? I dropped in there a couple of years ago. Kind of sketchy looking. I did notice the last time I was down that they weren't running the zip line jump from the top. That was a load of fun. Yep, as GTA said it's way off the beaten track as far as stuff to do goes, however the monorail from the rear of the Sahara(hotel is closed but not monorail station) can get you anywhere on the strip in very short order.

The Orleans isn't a place I would go back to again. Not sure if their air scrubbers weren't working or what, but the casino was disgustingly smoky and this is coming from a smoker. We played the daily ($75) I think. Out of the three of us playing this, all found several complete asshole local regs that did nothing but bitch, whine, berate and generally make sure nobody near them had a good time. Wouldn't return was the consensus.

Good TR. I've never met anyone that stayed at the Strat -- how was the hotel? I have stayed here almost all the time the last couple of years as i used to get most everything comped. Not so much lately though as i don't play craps or bacarrat anymore. Almost all the rooms have been redone so they are big and clean and nice new beds. The rooms don't smell like 20years of smoke. Did you go on any of the crazy outdoor rides? No the rides are not for me anymore ... did all the crazy stuff in the army.

I have been looking into those options IP and others but i'm used to the bus and i was really trying to keep expenese down that way my wife doesn't mind me going so often.

I've never heard of anyone wanting to check out the Orleans..The reason i wanted to check it out as there was a 20k guarantee the day after i left and i hear they have a good tournin with lots of players and solid play same reason i like binions. I don't care for the cash game at Stratosphere as there is usually just one table going if that and i know all the regulars there .how old are you? 39Some interesting choices for hotels/poker rooms.
I liked the Mirrage for cash but i'm not looking for the glitter of aria to i improve my cash game a bit
  • I do but not usually down there as i like to play my best game.

Thanks for the info on the orleans... Do you remember if they have regular guarantee tourniee? I have had locals try to Do thatat the strat as well but the dealers don't allow the locals to get away with it too much and i have seen them booted at the strat. they are trying to get a better game there.

The zip was running in nov but again not my thing.... I did the bunji jump at west ed mall when i lived out there. also drove to vegas fm edmonton. 23hrs. I miss those straigt roads out west.
  • Nope, don't have any information about a regular grd tourney. Just read somewhere they had a decent daily$75, 7500 start stack so we thought we'd give it a shot. Once we all got the boot from the tourney we couldn't get in a cab fast enough to get out of there and back to the strip.

Most weren't doing anything that a dealer could address via rules, just generally bitchiness and complaining.
  • I played there when I first started playing poker in 2002 or 2003...only due to the fact that they had some O8 mtts back then. I think the poker room always has been and always will be a haven for disgruntled old nits.
  • Why play tourneys if they are going to tax you?

If I go to the states I think cash is much better since you don't have to fade the 30% withholding tax.

In most casinos in Vegas there is no witholding unless you win more than 5K.
  • Only place that taxed me was Mirage, this is a very minor sample size.
