bubble protection?

No More Money Bubbles
Tired of bubbling the money in your online tournaments? A new Las Vegas company has a solution to help reduce variance along with the tilt that comes with falling just short of the money.
With Bubble Protection, players can purchase insurance against busting on the money bubble for a "modest" fee. Rather than the money bubble being one static position, the Bubble Protection “Bubble Range” will be 10 percent of the total number of entrants in a tournament. For example, if there are 1,000 players in the tournament, the bubble will be 100 places. If you finish in one of those positions, your buy-in (and rake) will be returned to you.
Bubble Protection will be available to all non-U.S. players for all regularly scheduled tournaments on PokerStars, Party Poker and the iPoker Network. The site is endorsed by British poker superstar Chris Moorman, the all-time winningest player in online tournament history.
“Bubble Protection’s genesis was the asking of a simple question, what is the single most effective way to help online poker players improve their poker results?” said Eugene Castro, Bubble Protection CEO.
“We want to give players the ability to enjoy the game they love more often and more profitably through bankroll preservation, and variance reduction through the use of our proprietary Bubble Protection technology.”

  • Sounds interesting, but what will be the fee and it would have to be way lower than the money you would be winning if you bubbled:confused:
  • Do they sell Bubble Bubble insurance too?
  • We do something like this at my local casino in the daily tournaments. It's been pretty standard for the last few years that when the tournament gets to the "bubble", everyone pitches some more money to create another pay spot that gets the bubble player their buy in back. Personally, I have never liked it. All it did was create an artificial bubble one spot earlier, because it was always expected that we would pay the one extra player. I've opted out of it about 90% of the time, and it's always been an interesting mix of reactions.

As for how it will work online... I guess we will see. I personally don't play enough tournaments to get concerned with it, but I can imagine an MTT grinder would be interested in this. I'll have to do some research into it, I'm quite curious how much money this site will make...

That would be double bubble insurance.

You mean Bubble Bobble, can you play that game for money now?
  • What about BTP winning the tournament insurance?

All jokes aside, I would like to see how this works and might try it out once. Maybe it will help, who knows.
  • Math will be done on this when it becomes avaible. I bubble everything under the sun anyway lol
  • Always loved the Trouble Bubble...why should I have to roll dice?
  • Umm, Moorman's not going to be doing it out of the good of his heart. Obviously you stay well away from this.. duh.

  • Insurance is always a bad bet.

Except in blackjack when the true count is +4.

Unless you are a bubble boy specialist! :-[ Despite making mostly +$EV decisions, I have been THE bubble boy at least a dozen times this month in tournaments with decent payouts, costing me over $7,000. :arghh:
