Phil Ivey Broke?

Scott Matusow, brother of The Mouth, posted this opinion piece on his blog hinting that Ivey may be broke. Could it be true?

Apparently, he has also stopped paying spousal support, and there are questions about 'campaign contributions' Ivey made to the judge in his divorce case.

I never thought of Ivey as a douchebag. But if this is all true about his wife and 'bribing' the judge, then I guess I'll have to rethink my opinion.

It appears the rumor mill might be correct, that Ivey “may be” broke. Do I feel bad? Hell no!! I do feel bad for his ex-wife, but she should have known she was possibly marrying a gambling degenerate. Rumor has it that Ivey owes at least one casino, 10 million dollars.. Perhaps Ivey should have thought twice before raising that lawsuit against FTP, in which sources tell me that action chased away an investor who allegedly had an oral deal in place with FTP.

What do you guys think of this? Is Ivey felted?

BTW, is this pic begging for some Photoshop or what?

  • man, if ivey is broke i think i should just give up on poker.
  • When I was playing at Bellagio last month I sat with a guy who was saying that both Ivey and Chris Ferguson are very shady characters, so this really wouldn't surprise me.

I am not sure if that witness would hold up in court. That is proof of absolutely nothing except one persons opinion.
  • Any time i've seen Ivey on TV he has almost come across as a huge dick.

and the mess he was in with Full Tilt really should only confirm it.
  • A guy wanting to stiff the ex does not mean he is busto . . . plenty of douchebags do it over a lot smaller sums. Doubt very much that Ivey is broke. As for the other stuff . . . not my business.

I never jump to conclusions on these things. I was labelled a deadbeat by a lying ex-wife.
  • the matusow family is in no position to talk about anyone being busto in the first place

    FYP. Hi honey :)
  • I've always considered Phil Ivey to be one of the classiest pro players. That isn't based on anything I've read but how he carried himself on TV. I've never seen him rant or whine after a beat or getting bluffed. He's always smiling and carrying on with the rest of the table in any event I've ever seen. He also sat out of the WSOP in protest of FTP not paying out players.

I have heard lots of stories about him dumping huge amounts of cash (usually at roulette), but I didn't know about his domestic situation.

I also know he was a very successful online player and FTP being shut down may be affecting his income. Being American he wouldn't be able to play on Stars and I don't think many of the other poker sites have the high stakes games he would play?

Either way, I have faith in the man and I hope he gets everything cleared up soon.

Did you hear about the business of him borrowing millons and millions of dollars from Full Tilt? he isn't exactly the first person i'd like to do business with.
  • phil likes too shoot the craps. not roulette. (from what ive read)
