  • wonder if they will introduce this at Woodbine slots? rakes must be pretty high.
  • First in to say "rigged!"
  • I have used this table on various cruise ships. It works well. I liked it.
  • Is verbal binding at these tables?
How are they different from table live poker?

How are they different from table live poker?

When I played them (PokerTek) in Vegas a few years ago, verbal didn't matter since there was no dealer. Similar to online cept you get to see and talk to the other players.
  • I've played on a cruise as well. Keeps the action going but the rake was pretty brutal.
  • Has anyone tried the virtual tables in Ontario? I read about it a bit but not tried it yet. Says you see your cards when you put your hand over your cards on your screen, is there a chance to show your cards by accident? Also how do you buy in?
  • I played on one in Quebec and Detroit casinos. I much prefer real cards and a dealer. I don't think other players can see your hole cards because you have to cup your hands over the glass.
  • Watch for collusion on these things since there is no dealer. Tried it in Vegas a couple years ago when the Excalibur had them and it wasn't bad. Weird to get used to, but I was drunk every time I played on them. I felt like it was easier to read people for some reason compared to playing with cards. Won about 6 bills playing 1-2.
  • has a dealer ever once done anything to stop collusion? there is def. cheating going on @ these like in all casino games. ppl are scum. more hands per hour is sweet but not 24/7 is kind of lameeeee
  • and $200/hr off the table adds up QUICK. plus ppl seem to play a little better @ this for some reason
  • I have played 2 sessions of 1/2 nl. I haven't noticed any collusion and there seems to be the regular mix of players. The RNG software seems to be pretty good, I have only really seen one bad beat. I love the fact that I will no longer have to drive to Brantford or Pt Edward to get my poker fix. They are adding a 3rd table and I wouldn't be surprised that they have as many as 6 tables by the end of the world...er I mean the end of 2012.

They will be at Woodbine. No idea when, though . . .
  • Playin with a guy from Ktch yesterday at Niagara who seemed to be quite sure they would also be going into Mohawk... Lord help my sole...
  • I co-developed the first to be certified by a gaming test lab in Las Vegas. Fat Diamond Gaming Tables. Poker Tec however went IPO for 25 mil and beat us out of the market. I baby-sat it through the testing which took a year. They are well tested but they play as fast as the internet and the hand rate can be over 80 per hour therefore the table removes a lot of money per hour. We had to reduce our rake to 5% and no flop no drop to keep it under $150.00. I played HU with a fellow for $100.00 each. after 20 minutes I had $100.00 he had $0. Our problem became that people would put $40.00 in to try it out and the 6 players would all be down in a half an hour.

That was when I first met you, when I came up to what was supposed to be a 1 table sng but I was the only one who showed.. lol. How long ago was that now? I've played on the Poker Tec tables several times now. I like them for the simple fact they encourage newbies to play. However you are right, rake is a big issue.

Yes I remember driving up to take a look. I thought that was you posting here. I'd ask if you implemented that one feature but it was a visit in confidence.
  • I do agree that rake is definitely an issue, but I actually found it quite boring. I have never sat at a table that was less talkative and I found that the fact that people do not have cards in front of them, they forget they are in a hand and could slow down the game considerably. I have been twice (just to make sure the first time was not an anomaly) and the hands per hour for both sessions was under 45. I don't see an advantage over a dealer led game at that rate.

Plus, from a personal opinion, I definitely have nothing to do with no chips to play with or cards to peel...lol
  • Hey, are they still playing pokertek e-tables at OLG Slots Western Fair?
  • Played there 2 weeks ago, seems pretty good, the times are restricted so you have to look it up to see when it is open.
  • Its no limit closer, I havent been sounds like I am not about to try it lol
  • Yo.

I'm one of the pit bosses on these tables in London, stumbled across this thread. A few quick questions answered:

Room is open 3pm-415 am Monday through Thursday, 24 hours from Friday at 3pm to Monday morning at 415 am.

Average hands ranges around 45. Live dealer you see about 25-30 depending on experience. No shuffle, no deck wash, no count, no pot splitting, and all action is restricted to 45 seconds per hand unless you request more time.

    > I found that the fact that people do not have cards in front of them, they forget they are in a hand and could slow down the game considerably.

Again, the system physically limits each person's action to 45 seconds. From my experience these tables move really really quick.

    >has a dealer ever once done anything to stop collusion? there is def. cheating going on @ these like in all casino games.

I am trained in looking for collusion. You may not think it but we keep a very close eye on any players that we deem suspect, watching behaviour, who they fold to, etc etc.

    > rakes must be pretty high.

Same as Point Edward. Ten percent to a max of 5 bucks a hand, unless playing shorthanded (4) when the max rake drops to two bucks.

    >They will be at Woodbine. No idea when, though . . .

Pokertek is using Western Fair as a trial. It is more likely you'll see the digital tables popping up in slot facilities and not Casinos, as there is a market for the real chip and card poker rooms --which is understandable.

    >London western fair slots has 2 tables:
    1/2 NL
    3/6 limit

We have never run a limit game yet. We have three tables. We're currently able to run 1/2 NL, 3/6 Limit and 5/10 Limit --but there is almost zero demand for limit games.

We will be getting in sit and go's, PLO (hi and hi/lo more than likely), and probably be doing some small 30 man Omaha and Holdem tourny's.

I'd also mention that we finally have our flatscreens up and running, so we have all the games on. What a pain in the ass that was.

If you guys have any questions about the room I'm happy to answer what I can.

Thanks very much for the info and please stick around. I'm sure there will be comments and questions.. Hope you have a relatively thick skin.. :)

I'm a mod on here and will attempt to get down for a try (with trip report) in the near future.

Any London locals played this yet? I have in Vegas a couple of years ago and would love it if it comes to Woodbine or Mohawk (5 min from me)

Yes thanks for the update. Ultimately looking forward to going to the "casino" with the family and not putting money into slots due to boredom.
  • A few more questions:

Can you call to get on the waiting list ?

How long do you have to wait to get a seat (typically) ?

Will there be a calendar of events or schedule when you start offering SNGs ?

First: yes you can. You can call 90 mins in advance to have your name added.

1 877 912 5466 Ext 4281 is toll free. (or 519 672 5395 if you're local). We start taking names for the 3 pm start at about 215, until then nobody is in our poker "room."

Second: hard to say. On weeknights usually you can walk in and jump onto the feeder table right away. People will call ahead because some nights just by fluke its insane busy.

Friday nights I would say show up RIGHT at three --we usually start the day all tables full and the list hits about 25 by peak around 8-9 pm on weekends. The action on weekends tends to be pretty good. The fact that we play "true" no limit helps for that.

And lastly, I'm hoping so. This is still in the trial phase but I'll be working with my superiors to get a tourny sched as well as a weekly Omaha game going. But I'm not solid on the details yet!

Yeah I played a few sessions with it. 40-44 hands an hour. No tipping. Typical 1/2 NL game. No max bet like at OLG 1/2. Pretty sure the software can support bigger stakes / other games. Could have some benefits with regards to collusion detection (since hole cards are 'recorded'). In some regards it takes the best of online and mixes it with live.

Hahah, my skin has grown really thick really fast doing the job I do.

Happy to have you come by.

If you do come don't forget to bring your winner's circle card. You have to set up a poker account as all money is actually kept on the card, like debit card or something similar.

Its about a 10 min process to get signed up, some people find this off putting, but what can you do.

We're looking at getting a 2/5 NL game in the future. As mentioned before, Omaha as well. I don't think there is a big enough demand to warrant running razz or 7 card.

The software supports Omaha, Razz, 7 Card Stud, limit no limit kill pot etc. All the variables are right in the game customization software.

And you're right, this is the perfect mix between the two, and an excellent way for an online player to make the transition to playing in live rooms if they found it intimidating to do so before.
